If we take X Taylor it means Trainor is at risk of being traded in time

Just saying, they are supposed to play the same position, and TBH, he did not have a great year

Did not look quick, and his kicking was sub par
that is an extreme conclusion to draw.

if we draft X Taylor it means we are future proofing for when Vlastuin retires.

Trainor takes Broads spot after he retires at the end of 2026.

for those who missed the live show last night, I have some very exciting news to share.

On the back of the successful weekly presser interview with Adem Yze, I will be heading back into the club a few days after the draft to have a chat with National Recruiting Manager Rhy Gieschen.

The purpose of this is I want to delve a bit deeper into the behind the scenes stuff and learn more about how we ended up deciding on players X, Y and Z in the draft, any insights into the way the players were graded, maybe even some insights into the 2024 crop.

But this is also about being able to ask questions from fans too.

so if you have any questions you want me to ask Rhy, let me know and I will start compiling a list.

It is a very exciting opportunity and I'm very thankful to the club for this opportunity.

there are a few more things in the works as well, but more on those later!
Well done !!

A few days before the draft would be more interesting

Ben Hobbs and Finn Macrae were delisted for their lack of speed, so why would Richmond consider recruiting Sharp, who also struggles with speed?
Ben Hobbs was delisted for lack of speed between the ears.

He's the slowest decision maker I've ever seen on a footy field, and his disposal technique was equally slow. He wasn't capable of playing inside mid, because he couldn't make decisions and execute skills quickly enough in traffic.

Sharp gets from contest to contest like a machine. He is not an outside running machine.

What he brings is inside work, defensive pressure and the ability to feed other mids - along with being a good forward. He compliments Smillie and Lalor, and would create fantastic long term midfield.

But, what do we reckon about next year's draft. If we reckon we can do better next year then why get Sharp, or Cumming?

Cumming can play HF, Grjl can play HB ... where is Sharp when he is not in the midfield? The bench?

Sharp's weaknesses are kicking, outside run and speed ...

Again, speaking as someone who doesn’t follow the draft that closely, but we’ve just seen Ben Hobbs get delisted - a top pick who could only play one position. Does this come into calculations with someone like Sharp? Do you need to have more strings to your bow these days?

To counter my own argument, you could say if you’re good enough then it doesn’t matter - Matt Rowell is pretty limited in terms of where he can play on the field but just won a Brownlow.
Sharp did play back in last year's champs and half forward for Central, but yeah doesn't slot in as nicely on a flank as Robey, Cumming or Grlj. Steele, Mitchell and Devon Robertson also similar types that have been moved on.

Sharp can literally play HF as proven this year.

Went for CDT and Cumming combo. Purely based on the ruck rule changing.

Dinosaur rucks that are purely ruckman will become obsolete. CDT provides us with elite athleticism at a position we have none. Cumming has a great blend of inside outside ball winning ability with the ability to go forward.

Of we don't take CDT I could see us going with Grlj which would be a great option.

Kicked multiple goals from HF this year.

Are you counting champs? Cos he was more a midfielder resting forward like Cotch in those games.

He’s kicked 4 goals in 9 SANFL games this year as an HF and never kicked multiple.

I don’t think you’re getting a Lalor type half forward with Sharp.

100% not, but he can play HHF as demonstrated in the SANFL

He's not a natural forward and he never will be.

He did go forward in the champs and kicked multiple goals. Couple of nice hit ups on the lead.

The guy is just a solid footballer, whoever drafts him is getting 200 games guaranteed. That being said I don't think he's for everyone and could see us passing him up for higher upside.

he is everything WC needd in the middle to make players like Harley and long term Dursma, Better players.

I’m not as convinced there. I got no dramas with him resting forward and outsmarting his direct opponent, think he’s way more dangerous deep.

But for CD as that high half forward just felt like he got lost a lot and ball went around and over him. Lots of 10-13 possession games, it just exposes too many of his weaknesses like lack of speed and getting out in space.

fair. He certainly isnt a natural fwd, but showed an ability to learn and adapt so could develop more, but personally, I wouldnt bother. Just play him in the guts, set and forget.

I am also a massive fan, was last year and havent changed my mind. I see a Rowell type, just not the same level. Leader, tough, will to win, absolute warrior and carry the team on his back type.
