OK people - long time watcher (often shaking my head) but only very occasional poster.

Like everyone, I am caught up in the excitement about next week. Unlike many, I'm happy to say that I know very little about the players and am happy to put my faith in our recruiting team. And whoever we pick, I will throw my support behind emphatically.

Here is my issue, though: I have just arrived in Bali for a little 9-night pre-'smash out the end of the year' break. I just tried Kayo and like the betting apps, it isn't available in my location.

Any idea how I could watch the draft otherwise?

No thanks. I wouldn’t tag you if you were Margot Robbie you’re so toxic

Thought I would add to the complete dribble that has been written on here lately. Is there a world where we might end up with picks (ignoring bids), 5, 6, 7, 8? The answer naturally is no but just for shits and gigs let's see if works. WC pick Duursma and then for reasons Sharp (maybe bid on Zeke in between). We decide to bid on Patterson just to annoy Dimma and they match. So we have pick 5, with CDT and Robey on the board. Dees lose their nut, see Robey, cry about Trac, and blow their load to offer 7 and 8 for 3 (now 5) and 38 (now who knows what pick). We tell them to suck us off and they throw in a F3. We begrudgingly accept. They pick Robey. So it's back to us. We bid on Annable just because, well, get stuffed Lions. They match. Back on us with pick something (had a few knock off bourbons at this point), so let's say it's pick 7 and CDT is on the board. Bombers have lost Draper and Grandpa Goldy so they really want him but think we are interested. We may be keen but Blair is horny mf and really just gets off on fleecing other clubs, so when they offer 9 and 21, he tells them to go and perform fellatio on themselves or offer 8 and 9 with us giving them an upgrade of 2027 F1 (so we swap our 27 F1 with their 27 F1) and the F3 we got from Dees (we might offer our F3 but that's too much detail for this). They relent because they are trying to shed the Dodoro bad boy image and we give them pick 7. They choose CDT.

We now have pick 8, 9, 10 and 11.

2 questions.

Question 1. Do we bid on Dean now even though we don't need him? Obvs yes coz it's Blooze.

Second question. Who are our four picks.

I'll have a stab - in no particular order... Grilj, Cumming, X Taylor and Dovaston/Poo/NHH. We may even find more picks going into 2026 with sides desperate to get a particular one of the afore mentioned guys.

In summary, other than being drunk, I'm happy to forego Robey, Sharp and CDT if we get 4 cracks at it.

Thank you for reading or skipping.

Not being a smartass at all and this is a genuine question.

If Xavier Taylor was genuinely the best defender prospects alongside Dean where it's known as a shallow pool for defenders.
Was he overlooked for the AFL U18 academy sides (best U18's in the nation together) that faced Richmond & Coburg's VFL sides or was he injured?

If he was overlooked surely he'd be deemed as a 'bolter' if he's being touted with a top 4 pick.

AFL Academy is picked yesr before. Hes developed pretty well through the year.

Grlj wasn't in it either or Farrow, Nairn, the other Taylor or Dov to name a few.

In fact they picked poorly this year, Fred, Ludowyke, Lindsay, Curtin, Burton, Rondgit, Walley, Onley, Hay and White.

All junk.

I’m pretty happy to put it out there…

Duursma- He has the talent but does he have the flakiness of his brothers as well? Will be back in VIC before too long so if we picked him wouldn’t be a flight risk. A Goddard type (without his kicking) is always good. Perhaps he’d play half back with stints on ball for us?
You’d back his talent in though.

CDT - If he slips through I’d see if we could get someone to trade up for hom and take the pick.

Undersized ruck by today’s standards who doesn’t have a massive leap. Could be a good tandem with Sims but we’d be putting chips in these are our two rucks for the next decade. He’s a Melbourne boy too so would stick around. Reports earlier in the year him and Greeves were the two that wanted to stay in Melbourne. Hope that’s changed for the Eagles sake. I would be ok with this pick if the club thought he was a ten year ruck, not a fwd/ruck hybrid. But I do think he’s the latter.

Robey - Raw, hasn’t spent as much time as others in the pathway. Brute of a player that needs to refine his game and learn more about how to play. They can teach positioning and decision making to an extent. Some club is going to get a star. I see a Bont type. Hope it’s us.

Cumming - Aggressive, played his career against bigger bodies, a ball hunter who is quick, agile and kicks goals. Will start at half forward and move to the midfield. Can kick and transition run. Whoever gets him is going to get an attacking two way mid who kicks goals. Perfect for West Coast, Richmond, Essendon and Melbourne.

Grjl - We know what you get with this guy. Perfect for the modern game. Takes it on with speed and provides options. A good kick and decision maker. Will be a midfielder but start off half back. Needs to work on his positioning and strength to get more inside ball but that will come. If he slides past Melbourne I can see fans in the future watching him play and asking why. Cumming is more aggressive at the ball and kicks goals, while Grjl breaks lines. Both amazing attributes to have and hard to split.

Taylor- Not sure he reads the ball as well as some believe but he makes up for it in tenacity and speed at the contest. The backline general for a team for the next decade who will set the tone and refuses to be beaten. Will play 250 games if the injury gods are good to him.

Sharp- What hasn’t he achieved in his time? Last year was the odds on favourite to be the number one pick but has been overlooked by flashier types. Runs hard, kicks well, makes good decisions. Sets the standard when training and a future leader of a club. Will play 250 games and probably captain a club.

West Coast just have to pick the best two ‘talents’ of the draft. If both reach their potential they have absolutely nailed it. But rucks take time and fans need to be patient. And they need to do everything to keep these guys happy and stay in the state for their careers.

Whoever picks Robey from there gets a gift. Will probably be the player of this draft crop.

Cumming and Grjl are hard to split for talent and will excite fans. Both will win games in their own way.

Taylor and Sharp will be strong, reliable leaders and rolled gold picks.
Great analysis, Rich … the best I’ve read.
I’m leaning Sharp and Taylor myself. I reckon Sharp is as close to a can’t miss as can be and has not put a foot wrong. And he’s a safe option when we should be looking to play safe options given our ladder standing and current trajectory of development
I see Vlastuin leadership and longevity qualities and you build teams around that.

Thanks for clarifying.

Generally those sorts of teams are top heavy in midfielders and forwards which is why I found it unusual he didn't feature in the backline.

Would've loved to have seen him against VFL opposition.

It's funny how much changes in 12 months with the side listed and the names who weren't selected.

Interesting read. But all collapses if one piece fails.

Is Sam related to Daryl?
Tigers premiership player 1973 and lives in Wentworth/comes from Mildura
Don’t think so.
I know his dad, Glenn ‘Ozzie’ Cumming a near 400 gamer at Wenty.
Pretty sure Daryl is not the grandad but there’s a canceled his who won a McLeod Medal as the Sunraysia b&f.
Great sporting genes. His mum was a gun netballer.

Always seems to be an over representation of club tied talent. Think this years had 10/25 and next years has 9/25.
