If the Hawks want to load up for trading in 2026, and the Tigers want a sliding Grilj at our selection, then this feels OK:

  • Hawks Pick 10 (~14) & F1st (~18). For
  • Tigers F1st (~5) and F2nd (~23)
I think the tigers just give us their future first and thank us for giving some kid a chance at a decent career. We keep what we already have.

Sorry for dropping in unannounced.

As a Tiges fan, I'm obviously looking at our 1st 2 picks (of which I think Robey and Cumming suit us the most), but if Grlj was still there at your 1st pick, what would the Tiges need to trade for it in your opinions? Clearly our F1 wouldn't be on the table, but I'd say our F2 might be. What else would we need to use to top that up?

A bag of magic mushrooms.

You may be joking ... but Agreed!. That is exactly what North did with Matt Whitlock (2024 pick 27 for 2025 pick 4). If the tigers believe the player (Grilj) is of high value to their future success, a straight swap makes sense for both parties.

My thinking if the Hawks may be willing to consider a trade being as it gives the Hawks more trade capital to go into next years trade period with, obviously Merrett might still want out, there's Butters and I wouldn't be surprised if the Hawks had a crack at Noah Anderson a year out from his contract expiring.
We ain’t trading a first for your second

Apparently Saints willing to offer an F1 in a live trade for Jevan Phillipou.. would we consider this at 10 (14)?
I think crows first at 16 is the earliest he will go. You could get ahead of that by trading with crows first and slide to 16. If we really wanted capital for a crack next year then getting crows f1 and saints f1 on top of ours would be a great position to be in.

The only reason we would trade our pick 10 into next year would be to get a F1. Why would we (or any team) want a F2 and change for a top 10 pick.

It was more just an open ended question, would it be another F2nd for example, does that help with getting other players? FWIW I don't think the Hawks would trade, especially if they liked Grlj who I think if he gets through our picks, could well be available at yours, the Dees are the ones I think are hard to read.

I guess I was looking at it more that the Hawks are playing for the now, Grlj may be a few years in the system before really impacting.

If you want an honest answer and you arent putting the F1 on the table then there just isnt a way Hawthorn move it. The only way they do is for a future first that they could use next year as you said they might want to. Even two future 2s does little to move the needle

Unless your f1 is on the table in some capacity

No chance at all

They're worried he may not offer a point of difference to the other mids they picked up last year.
Sorry he is nothing like the mids they picked up last year or any other player they picked up midfield or other. Some of the other players that have been linked to them I could squint and say they are similar like Robey but not Grlj

Interesting to hear Twomey speculating Dyson Sharp might be available at our pick but may not be our best fit… He said too similar to Worpel who we let go.. I’d have thought Sharp looks at a completely different level and player style to Worpel but the comment interests me..Twomey Ive learnt rarely gives his own opinion but gives the narrative he wants to spread or the opinions coming out of club land..You can get great info from him if you read between the lines a bit.. His fixation on being some sort of music guru is really strange too.. Maybe he wants to be a modern day Molly Meldrum…

I believe it is BBQ as in grill.
So, it's pronounced barbeque?

And I thought it was pronounced grill.

Yeah the music thing is weird but hey to each their own. Twomey does get a lot of his draft stuff right from the clubs but he also works harder than most in the media on this stuff and you see him at a lot of junior footy.

Sharp I would think makes sense for the Bombers as a strong inside out mid. If you asked me before this year if Sharp would be there for the Hawks at 10 I would of thought there was no chance. He did little wrong this year too, it is more a sign of how the game is shifting, teams are wanting more pace and spread from their mids to aid in faster transition of the ball. They want guys who work back to help the defense and then spread when their team has the ball.

This is why first touch guys like Sharp and Greeves will slide down the orders in the coming drafts

Just how does one pronounce "Grlj"?

And anyone who responds with 'very carefully' will be put on Ignore immediately.
My mother's maiden name is Grljusich and the first four letters are effectively pronounced grill.
