If we've got the chance to do it now and open up the possibility of using the 26/27 picks for trading for established talent I'd prefer that plus we've got a number of Academy/Father Son options coming through in those years.

And if those f/s prove to be top 10 talent that’s great but I wouldn’t be putting any eggs in that basket. They’re bonuses not something I’d be relying on.

Stick with your original instinct of getting Grlj and Fred. Top 5 picks need to be difference makers as the further down the draft board you go the bigger swings/riske you need to take for that type (I.e. RCD and Dow). We really only have Lalor who’s shown potential as game breaking mid right now (Smillie and Hotton hopefully).

It’s also probably easier to get a Bergman or harry Oliver type out of a club then a butters or serong type who port/freo will move heaven and earth to keep.

Can see WC going Sharp and Rodriguez, if they get the compo pick.

Really hope Grlj continues his midfield growth and becomes a genuine top 5 option. Perfect fit for us.

Duursma a maybe. Played back in the academy game against us, and in the f50 in his last CTL game . If he has a good carnival as a midfielder, hard to pass on.

I’m a big Riley Onley fan, at this stage he’s not in top 5 ( prob top 10 ) calculations, but potentially could be a big climber as the year progresses. Who doesn’t want a 194cm powerful mid, who has the running power missing from some of the other big bodied mids
“ Onley is advancing through the ranks in the mold of prototype big bodied midfielders. At 194cm, his power, aggression and strength is overwhelming at the level and has seen him collect big contested ball numbers. But he's also got running power to complement his inside grunt, meaning he's an asset in transition as well. Onley doesn't have the consistency or cleanliness of other midfielders ahead of him, which is separating him from the top echelon in 2025.”

Absolutely zero chance WC won’t take CDT… their current rucks are Bailey Williams and Matt Flynn. They are absolute spuds

Depending on his season, I’d think WCE will also be all over Curtin.

Onley is a truly awful kick when the game is moving to better skills.

Not sure about that, CDT isn’t necessarily going to be the answer to their ruck woes.
If they rate Sharp BPA, they’ll take him. If Reid goes , Sharp plays. that big bodied mid role.
Rodriguez, home grown talent, genuine top 5 player.

I guess that's the bonus of being in the position we find ourselves in. We can play the game as it unfolds and there are plenty of options that we can target depending on how the kids perform through the year, someone may come from the clouds and become a must have, we don't necessarily need a tall option but could play the trade game if someone is desperate for CDT should the Eagles not take him.

I don’t think sharp is the right fit for us

Yeah a no for me at this stage. Plenty of times sharp gives a handball where a Greeves could burst from congestion in the same situation. Sharp looks like he struggles to cover much ground with his twinkle toes running. I think he might make our midfield too once paced.

If we want a inside mid I think it's Greeves. Far superior athlete. But I won't make a final call until I see him at the champs and the testing numbers for both.

Onley blazes away, it’s his main flaw, but he is a long kick, which we saw off the hb line against our VFL team.

Curtin will be on their radar, but top 2-3 ?.

Yep, greaves is the one I’m interested in atm but still plenty of time to go

Agree but can't see WC passing on Fred (twice if Allan leaves). It's possible if they have 1 pick.
Surely the likes of CDT & Curtin are more important for their rebuild unless they want to go down the North path of having no KPP talent and a bunch of mids

Greaves is also my current top pick but the champs will reveal most of the cream.

Reckon they have their tall forwards, trade for a ruck. They need a KPD. They have the Hawks pick too don't forget.

Curtin I can see as a KPD on their wish list but may be hoping he gets to Hawks pick.

They've been kissed that this is a strong WA draft I reckon and they have picks.

Do they have any mid talent not named Harley Reid?

Ginbey and Allan look more like HBF and Hewett maybe but inconsistent.

Reckon their best outcome is 1 mid (Fred) and 1 tall (Curtin).

I don’t know if that makes them kissed, Vic clubs have that every season.

I actually think it makes it easier Richmond if we have a couple of picks around them, if they’re more likely to pick WA talent or iy makes it more predictable then that’s of our benefit.

The Vic kids are generally the majority of top end. I meant they're kissed that the year they'll have a heap of picks coincides with one of WA's best crops.

Same with us last year, nearly every kid was Victorian in 1st round.

There’s another Daffy? 😍😍

This’ll be the first son of a player I grew up idolising.
Gonna be millions of people saying this if we ever get a Deledio, mostly opposition players

First game back from a delayed start to season 2025, Luke Hallett was clearly lacking match fitness and will have games where he finds more of the footy. Having said that, he was still extremely impressive showing moments of elite quality and AFL level traits that will have recruiters salivating over his potential. He has a powerful frame which allows him to absorb contact and maintain body control to dish off a disposal or lay a punishing tackle of his own. His kicking skills are sublime, seemingly able to clear 60 meters without needing to overly exert himself and accurately spot up teammates at short and medium range. Like many of the best players Hallett seems to play with a confidence bordering on arrogance.

CDT is not the best Ruck at the moment west coast most needs are mids and defender
They have 2 WA players that are rated very highly that fill needs Curtain & Fred
I cant see them going past these 2 players if they continue to develop

Could our first round pick slide even further if north Melbourne ask for another assistance package? Perhaps another early priority pick?

It would make a mockery of the system if north received a first round priority pick after trading out their pick, wouldn't put it past the CFL though.

I can't find any other potential first rounders from WA outside of Fred and Curtin, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough ...
