Does CDT have a contested marking game or an ounce of forward craft? We got exposed by a ruckman last night who got 20+ touches and was marking everything down the line for BOG.

Is there any Nick Watson, Cody Weight Weightman, Kozzie Pickett small forward types projected to go early? We need one.
There’s a 19yo in our VFL team who’s very much of that style and stature, admittedly very unproved but Massimo Raso is his name and he appears likely to go within the mid season draft.

We don’t currently have a pick at this stage but that will change with a retirement or someone placed on the long term injury list.

I’m going to say this as respectfully as I can but Grlj doesn't strike me as the 'best of the best' in elite talent to warrant a top 5 selection with our first two picks.

Yes his playing style is the type we could use on our list and he looks like he can have a solid AFL career but I'm very skeptical he's worthy of our highly valued first two picks.

More than happy to be proven wrong though.

You seem to know everything about the draft …. Are you Cal twomey?

Good questions, we’ll find out as the year progresses and he comes up against the best ruckman in the National Championships.

Just listening to an interesting conversation on SEN re Ruckman . In a nutshell they were saying ruckman can now cross the line at centre bounces and nuetralize the contest. Gone are the days when it’s all about who has the bigger leap or the tallest player.
It then becomes a wrestle in the middle as to who wins clearances .So I suppose if you have a ruckman who competes at ground level, your chances improve of winning clearances.

It reinforces my belief that we need to start again with our ruck stocks, we’ve got Nank and then 3 ruckman that are not suited to modern rucking contests.

Interestingly last night Nank had 31 hit outs to Gawns 34. But Nank lowered his colours around the ground to one of the best ruckman I’ve seen in my time watching footy.

No he’s awful over head constantly double grabs, misreads flight and struggles to mark it at its highest point (you’ll watch him secure the ball at level of his hips a lot). He also hasn’t shown anything in the forward line.

He excels as a Grundy like follow up ruckman. At this stage I’d be disappointed if we take him unless he shows more marking or forward craft.

who does he play for

Stingrays. Sorry game is tomorrow, I misread fixture

If we got pick 5 from north would you feel okay at taking him at that pick? Or you just don’t rate him at all?

We have Sims, who could be the prototype modern ruckman. Tall, competitive, skilful, mobile and can kick goals.

Nank was the #1 rated player on the ground, ahead of Gawn.

I can see the brilliance and what he’s highest outcome is and it’s a NicNat as a ruck or Thilthorpe as a forward.

But I think he’s probably gonna be a more athletic Grundy. That’s still a pretty handy player.

I’d basically only pick him in top 5 if:

His marking and forward craft improve giving me faith he’s closer to Thilthorpe than Grundy, or if I feel comfortable our future midfield is set, I.e McAuliffe cements himself, or our f/s go up another level or whatever it is that makes me think we only need 1 mid in draft come end of season.

Right now imo our midfield is diabolical.

I wouldn't worry about a ruckman too much, the only ruckman that really troubles us is gawn and he is 33/34. Tom De Koning and Jackson are probably the only other ones that may trouble us going forward .We have enough existing ruck options on the list in Nank, Ryan, Lefau, Sims plus the two cat Bs in OHB and Colina. If all of these options fail we can always just pinch a ruck from someone else.

Carlton is what im hearing regarding Raso
