*hate picking him with our early picks with a passion.

I’m sure he is a very nice young man, maybe too nice on the field.

But he took 3 huge pack marks, that’s one of my biggest criticisms of him, so credit where it’s due.
I have no favorites in the draft and will be happy with which ever players we select if we decide to keep the picks
But it goes against the grain to select Ruckman with early picks but if the upside is just too good to pass up you just take them.

Wouldn't say no to a Luke Jackson type if thats what he is projecting to become
Mids are a safer choice but they need to have standout features
Kicking , Speed , Agility and footy smarts

The way I look at it is Rucks usually have a pretty undersized impact on a game. You mention Luke Jackson, but then look at his performance against Darcy Cameron the other week. Cameron was able to break even and limit his impact, despite being the less talented player.

That’s the thing. Jackson is a great athlete, but his impact can be neutralised or at least dampened by a decent ruck. Compare that to a genuine mid who’s involved in transition, applies pressure, spreads well, and makes repeat efforts around stoppages. Those are the players who influence winning in a real and consistent way.

And I know CDT can do the above but it’s in the same way Lalor played full forward, it’s a credible facsimile of a FF but you’d rather a genuine one.

When we’ve got two top 5 picks, I’d rather use them on players like Duursma (I’m not even massively high on him, but he’s a phenomenal athlete who finds the footy) and Grlj, who has the traits to genuinely shift games consistently. Premiership rucks are usually grunts and Spending a premium pick on that role feels like overkill to me, especially when you can find someone to break even in the ruck much cheaper.

CDT is a nice piece to add but I don’t think he’s a next level talent compared to the top of the class and I don't think hes changing the direction of the side more than an average ruck would.

There is always the glass half full side as well

Imagine a team with 2 very good Ruck / Fwds in sims and CDT
Double teaming the opposition Ruckman with the talent to actually play a 2nd position and maybe a 3rd with CDT
Lets just assume he is that good to be selected top 3 in the draft and has the Midfield / Ruck and Mid abilities he is displaying at junior level

You then have the flexibility to rest Sims as the 3rd tall when not rucking and CDT being that rotation as well as being able to do what Blicavs does for Geelong in the middle

That could be the game changer and makes our game play the difference

Looks similar to what Calcium Man man had us down for...
Thinking Idk GIF

Notwithstanding that we could snare (trade for) one of Reid or Rowell, but If we take our two picks to the draft, I hope it's>

Grlj (speed, runs hard and uses the ball well).

Rodriguez (dual-sided and has silky skills)
