Tom McCarthy to west coast , surely not another star unearthed from our vfl? Right ??

Don't think it's another Durham or Davidson situation. He isn't as good as either and he's older than when they were picked so not the same upside.

congrats to McCarthy on his life changing opportunity.
sucks to lose him, but man gets a shot at the big time
best wishes and good luck.
Well it will be good for him to have a couple of people he would have been around in Baker & Graham im presuming and not sure how long he was in the RFC VFL team but might have some contact with Mini back in the day

People going to melt about Raso?
Amazing how many of our VFL players become stars when they're a chance to be drafted but become spuds when we're losing the very next VFL game

Notice in the HS that in the article predicting year end ladder positions, they have us finishing last, just behind WCE and Norf. If that pans out, picks 1 & 3, wow 😯. We gonna be a bloody good side in 2-3 seasons 😊

tigs2010 Calcium Man - changed my mind, was going to do more MSD videos today but I feel like as soon as the MSD is over its completely done and people lose all interest in it.

----

CDT enters the champs phase of the season still as the presumptive pick 1 favourite for many, and this was s solid outing in his return to Talent League play. He was competitive in the ruck and his follow up work, but in the first half struggled to impact on the spread as much as he typically does with most of his disposals being scrappy and contested. He was more impactful in the second half as the pressure eased off, and had some impressive contested marks which were a highlight for a guy that hasn't always shown aerial dominance.

nice bit of play by CDT right at the end of that footage where he spring over the top of the pack (spills the mark) but panther like reflexes when the ball hits the ground.
If he starts taking those contested marks, it will make him even more of a mouthwatering prospect

I’d still prefer a Callum Smith vid. ;)

But CDTs marking was good in this game, and I felt it was his best game for getting the ball inside to out via handball. Don’t really rate his transition game, any time I’ve watched him, he gets lost and doesn’t demand the ball. Compare that to a Langford/Smillie last year and that’s why I’d prefer a midfielder who does it as a main skill not a nice to have.

As for smith he’s basically been in his sides best couple in his last 3 games Dandys and the vic metro vs country trial match (though unfortunately that’s probably the most insightful game we’d have for guys like him and Grlj so far given the competition level compared to Coates and I can’t find footage anywhere).

There is always the glass half full side as well

Imagine a team with 2 very good Ruck / Fwds in sims and CDT
Double teaming the opposition Ruckman with the talent to actually play a 2nd position and maybe a 3rd with CDT
Lets just assume he is that good to be selected top 3 in the draft and has the Midfield / Ruck and Mid abilities he is displaying at junior level

You then have the flexibility to rest Sims as the 3rd tall when not rucking and CDT being that rotation as well as being able to do what Blicavs does for Geelong in the middle

That could be the game changer and makes our game play the difference

If CDT can play as a genuine AFL B grade mid + B grade ruck + B grade KP he is worth gold. He creates an outnumber at contests, is a marking option and can be part of a ruck set up that at least breaks even.

On rucks, the key thing is to be able to nullify the opposition from dominating the ruck. A dominant ruck can lead to dominance at clearances, and make clean ball movement from clearances much easier. So a less talented, but aggressive and strong/athletic, ruck can nullify a great ruck and therefore make the quality of the ruck much less important.

So a ruck like CDT could be gold. He is tall enough and athletic enough to stop oppo dominance, and then he becomes an extra mid against a lumbering unco side of beef. And if CDT can mark the ball he can play 3 roles, which is pretty much unprecedented.

I’m starting to like CDT
But I think tigs get one of either Duursma or CDT tbh. I’d like to say WCE might go Duursma as his ceiling is higher, plus maybe having him alongside Harley would be what they want. But they need another player to really play that contested inside and I can only see Sharp fitting that mould.
But I’m just a footy nuffy so probably well off.
Definitely don’t like how multiple people consider us to get Rodriguez over Grlj
