I could be wrong, but reading through our autopsy threads and the general anger at Taranto, Dow, Hopper, Kmac etc., I think the general consensus is we need midfield help too

Given this is such a massive need, this is why I'm against trading out especially with 2 top 3 picks likely to be ours this year and possibly a top 5 pick next year. We could very well have our midfield sorted for the next decade with those 3 picks & Kellaway plus Lalor Smillie Hotton & McAuliffe already on the list.

Haha we definitely do need help, but I will mention this. Straight from the mouth of someone who is very close to Harley is that he is staying put at west coast. So that I don’t believe will happen. This is ultimately why I think Duursma is going pick 1.

I get the theory, and I don’t have any confidence in WCE recent list management and recruiting decision making or how they’ve handled Harley, but picking Duursma seems a risk if you don’t have Harley signed up. If he takes off end of year seems pretty certain Will would bolt too when he could.

And I don’t know anything about Harley’s and Yaz’s personalities and their relationship, so take this with a grain of salt, but seems risky betting on two 20 year olds in relationship to leverage that connection between Yaz and Will to keep Harley happy. He’d want to be Trent Cotchin off the field if I was betting on him like that.

I also don’t think Harley will have made his final decision until season ends unless it’s stay long term. He has all the leverage with every club by saying nothing and his manager will know that.

Every club has their own ratings and things change in the next 3 months
specially after the combine. Apart from Essendon and maybe Hawks i cant see who we could trade with and that would be to move down and get a 2nd rounder which is not great and there are no standout players clubs would be clamoring for to give up a F1

Grlj is already been spoken about in that range. It's only Fred who isn't, but he has the tools to elevate himself into that discussion. I'd like Sharp and Grlj personally. We need a big clearance inside bull who can hand it out to Lalor, Hotton, Smille etc.

Kellaway was named among the best for SA on the day, reward for his excellent work at the coalface. He was a big contributor to the dominance of the SA midfield, getting first hands on the ball at stoppage regularly or working hard to chain out as a receiver. He made excellent decisions, his hands were quick and slick, and he beamed a NSW player viciously from point blank range.

He’s been spoken about that range atm. If his nationals are good I don’t see why not. Kid has great work ethic.

Hopper, Prestia, McKauliffe, Sonsie, Dow, Smillie can only exclusicely play inside mid.

None are fast, none are currently playing particularly creatively, none can play other positions.

We need someone with speed and decision making to sepperate themselves and make plays outside the congestion.

But will we be able to get someone the level of Reid in the draft? That’s the question I have.

Reid’s talented. He went number 1 for a reason, and not every draft has a player like him. If we can get a Reid/Callaghan in this draft, then take the picks to the draft. If not, then I’d go for Reid.

I haven’t been following this year’s draftees so can’t comment much on their quality, but it’d be a shame if we’re only considering the draft.

That's a lot of mids. I think giving up 2 for Reid makes sense especially if we can get something back to get a running player.

If we could do something like 2 & 3 for Reid and Hawks R1, then I'd be more in favour of doing it, but doubt Matt Clarke is that generous

its not about the draft, but what we should be looking at is proaching some of the fitness guys from Collingwood. a whole bunch of them are over 30 and unfortunately still playing well. Elliott was stuffed 5 years ago and at 32 is killing it. same as Sidebottom and the like.
