What are your thoughts on comparison to Darcy at the Dogs? I haven't seen that contested marking ability as yet but early days as you said.
I'm guessing you're referring to CDT not Onley?

I don't really see the Darcy comp at the moment, I see CDT as more like a young Grundy with the follow up work at ground level and his run. Darcy looks like a natural forward with all the bits in his trick bag, contested pack marking, 1v1 marking, leading into space etc. Haven't seen that yet from CDT.

Darcy is 208cm with some of most freakish long arms I've ever seen combined with a vertical leap so defenders have no chance to even reach the ball.

These talls at the top of this draft aren't even in the same stratosphere as a prospect. CDT is only 200cm for starters. Darcy did grow a bit post draft though

In the marquee matchup of the weekend, Cooper Duff-Tytler got the better of Louis Emmett and played a huge role in helping his Cannons team get up on the day. He didn't always have his own way in the hitout battle, but his follow up work at ground level and on the spread was elite for a 200cm lad. Given his relatively recent full time commitment to footy we might only be scratching the surface of what he's capable of.

OK ruckman, good at filling the hole, good contested mark, and looks like a high end mid!

He looked cleaner than most of the guys roving him. Could massively lower the risk of taking him early if he is able to be a good big bodied mid anyway. Very interesting.

Drafting someone like a Grundy early isn't a problem. Paying him way too much of our salary cap should he reach the heights of Grundy is what the Pies got wrong

With so many gaps though I'd be hesitant spending a very early pick on a ruck, seems more like a nice to have rather than a must have when it comes to list builds

I have no faith in our club drafting a ruck with a late pick. It's either gotta be the no brainer early pick (tbh I dont have much faith in us here either) or hope we pick well off the back up merry-go-round (this I have faith in with Maric & Nank)

Yep, you can pickup a top 5 ruck in the league 4 years down the track for a late second rounder, can't pick up 23yo A grade mids for that.

Don't think so

There are like 5 A+ players in the whole league

Not saying CDT is A+, but he could be, pretty rare traits he has

Imagine if the club did recruit some like CDT, the team would start looking like the land of the giants.

Imagine going through most of your schooling in the high 180cms and only have a handful of kids taller than you then rocking up to Punt Road and your one of the shortest LOL

Especially if Hicksy is right about us going after 195cm mid Hustwaite

How many A+ rucks have won the premiership this century?

Gawn
Cox
Primius (maybe)

That’s it.

Hell if you expand it to played in a granny you can add Sandilands and 2018 Grundy.

Better yet, how many C+ or worse rucks have won flags recently?

Darcy Fort
Rhys Stanley
Scott Lycett
Jordan Roughead
Max Bailey
Robert Campbell
Clark Keating x 3

Some serious spuds in that list. Least important position on the ground.

Problem with drafting Ruckman is that it takes 5-6 years for them to be a dominant Ruck thats ready to mix it and be good if they ever get there. Then after 5-6 years within 1-2 years they become free agents so if they are that good you pay through the nose to keep them after investing so much development and pick

Massive risk v low reward for a 1 position player
I would much rather have an average to good ruckman that can fill the role and have 2-3 players in the team that are multi positional like Sims , Miller , Balta that can give them a chop out when needed

Its 1 position in the team
Just go after a player like Knobel in 2 years time

I've seen enough of CDT

May end up being the best u18s prospect in the last 5 years

Elite speed, endurance, tough, courageous, excellent skills, great football IQ, and a terrific overhead mark, and a leader

Just happens to be 200cm, which for some reason people are holding it against him

This bloke could play all 18 positions on the ground , a huge point of difference, Blicavs with actual football ability

This bloke is a gift

Sounds like Luke Jackson. Reality is no one that tall will ever be a legit midfielder.

He will be the first that can do it properly, there are others that do it now, Blicavs and Conor Nash the tallest.

CDT is twice as good at football than both of them combined

You would have said same about Smillie if he was in draft 5 years earlier ya malaka

How good would it be to have our very own basketball background guy that can get mentioned every single quarter of every single game we play for 15 years

The Blicavs comp is actually pretty good. Undersized ruck with great athleticism but like you say has footy smarts.

Blicavs was/is average anywhere but KPD. Connor Nash meh. Plus, CDT is (/will end up) quite a bit taller than both of them.

Good problem to have I guess. If we do end up with pick 1, we either select the unicorn or we trade it for a bounty.
