Fair.

But genuine question, say we have pick 3 and 6, WCE takes Fred and Curtin 1 and 2, and the next 3 on board are Greeves, Sharp and CDT before there is a talent gap to Onley, Cumming etc.

Who would you pick? Are you not considering list make up and what spots are open or will be open in our best 22 going forward?
In that scenario you would think Sharp & CDT

if cdt shapes as a truly generational ruck we take him. if we cut collina and ohb (were better off pretending they dont exist list management-wise) we've got ryan as the only true ruck stock. simms more of a forward/ruck.
you can pick up rucks later in the draft and take scraps from other clubs but you wont get a ruck that can do what cdt can.

I really like the idea of having 2 x mobile Rucks that are dual positions
So long as they are both genuine Dual Position players with good leap and agility

We need mids but that area can be filled with Free Agency

I am picking the best player/s regardless of position. We have so many holes, its not like we are stacked.

Could also see the likes of Hotton and Lalor as part time mids, who knows yet. That leaves Smillie as the only pure mid potentially.

If best available are a ruck and KPF there's no way we can take them, we need mids, mids and more mids.
It would be a shit sandwich, but the RFC for a very long time have stated, we draft best available and trade for need. I cant see that changing when we have no idea if all the KPF's we just drafted will even make it.

idc if you can occasionally get great rucks from later in the draft, if cdt is the best available at our pick, then let's be the ones who make it so a high draft pick ruck is what helps win flags, create the new meta

he also looks like he can play literally every position on the field as a backup

Imagine that big ****er as a wingman lmao

But who’s the best available? Who was the best out of Langford and Jagga last year for Carlton? I personally couldn’t seperate them (which is what often occurs with picks 3-6/7) and would have decided based on my team make up, Carlton didn’t need another big slow inside mid.

Yeah exactly if Hotton and Lalor don’t look like mids it makes Sharp way more attractive a pick compared to CDT even if both are on same tier of talent. That’s why to me the development of McAuliffe and Juddy (and others) is going to be so important in deciding who to draft.

Of course if CDT develops like Sam Darcy as a forward this year then yeah **** it get CDT and worry about fitting in all our KPF in the future. But if Curtin is just Faull 2.0 then we’ve already got Armstrong, Faull, Sims, Fawcett, Lefau etc.. in a logjam for KPF spots and development time so I wouldn’t draft him.

Bro the club will have a strong opinion on that, especially so early in the draft.

That’s isn’t bad I mean his 17 facing off against men as a half forward I assume?
Sharp looked good, playing as a high half forward, they’re decent numbers. There’s some footage and a summary of his game posted by Zero Hanger, pretty much saying that there’s areas of his game that they are focusing on developing. Specifically his forward craft and outside game.
Everyone knows his inside/contested game is elite, so makes sense to work on weaknesses.

I think if you are taking 1 first round pick a year this strategy is reasonable but when we are about to take our 8th and 9th R1 pick in 2 years, being the 5th & 6th top 11 picks also then you need to address list needs or its a negligent strategy especially when the list is already so unbalanced.

With no TDK as well.
The only good tdk was there blank cassettes back in the glorious 80s

If the draft was the only way to build a list then I would agree but with trades and FA, I would stick to best available with first round picks.

We will always be able to attract mature talent, the likes of Norf and Saints and even Giants for example, dont share that ability.

Josh Lindsay put together another solid performance for the Falcons although his role in game continues to be a watch. Like last week he started in the middle and struggled both to impact at stoppage and find the time and space to maximise his lazer of a left boot. He was moved to his more customary half back role in the second half and started to dictate play with some superb playmaking including one elite dart into the corridor that led to a goal for his team. But just when we thought that the move onball might have been abandoned after only a game and half, Lindsay was back on ball for the final 10 minutes of the game.

great game much better than the earlier one disposal wise and shown he can hunt the call in a midfield contest.

side note that female commentator calling every tenth possession and banging on about the weather during play lol
