Another from the weekend to drop down from the seniors to dominate the junior grade and remind everyone of his quality. Sharp had a massive game here, racking up 19 disposals in the first half before sitting out significant portions of the second including most of the fourth quarter. He's not going to blow anyone away with his athleticism and pace, but this was a reminder of just how dominant he can be as a force at stoppage and contest. His footwork and body control through contact is a class above, allowing him to twist and turn through congestion and tight spaces while maintaining his composure with the ball, and his spacial awareness lets him find and release teammates with creative hands.

I don’t think sharp is the right fit for us
Hard to know without seeing Smill and Lalor as finished product. Reckon both would benefit having Sharp as the battering ram feeding them rather than having to smash in themselves on the bottom of every pack.

Smillie is more a first receiver type despite his size.

Whether he's the best player at our pick who knows but he will be around the mark.

Perhaps …. But we have hopper and Taranto on the books for another 4 or 5 years. Prefer center square mids like Callahan and butters who can win the ball but also run and carry with it and hit targets … not sure sharp will be that player

Problem with those guys is once Lalor & Smillie get to 22 those guys are 30+ and then couple years later Lalor & Smillie should have us contending and those guys will be washed.

Could see Taranto in a Boak role later on.

Sharp would take 3 or 4 years anyway to shoulder the load.

I do agree a more versatile type would be handy but wouldnt want to take a lesser talent to find that.

He is too good for that level but I think he should be playing there for the next couple of weeks building up to the Champs. Get him chock full of confidence. He can go back to playing seniors after the champs.
100%

Last year against Allies he was BOG and he held them together against a very talented Metro Midfielder, it all came unravelled when he went off.

The senior footy has put a lot of focus on what he can't do rather than what he can. Think he's still a top 5 guy.

Saw a video with him at 18 😳

I absolutely agree with you but there is a general consensus due to his size that he’s a battering ram.

I’m keen on Sharp to be that for us if it allows others with class like Lalor to hurt teams by foot.

In an ideal world we’d draft the calibre of Sharp and Fred but I’m aware it’s unlikely.

If we end up with Grlj Fred & Kellaway from our draft haul this year I'll be quite happy at this stage of the draft year

Reminds me of Patty Cripps…except his fist hits the ball with his handpasses!

Agree but can't see WC passing on Fred (twice if Allan leaves). It's possible if they have 1 pick.

Dyson looks good I love his inside battering ram play, him and Grlj would be perfect for us.

Are we really looking for someone to feed the ball to our 2 big bodied mids in Lalor and 195cm Smillie? We want someone with a turn of pace, with great spread+accumulation, and tidy skills.

Tbh after Samson Ryan last quarter, we should seriously be looking at CDT, and possible a Linsday or Fred with North's pick.

In all honesty we are simply taking the best player available, and if that's sharp, we'll take him you'd think.

Sharp seems like a decent consolation prize

Yeah as I said don't think that's the type of player Smill is and not sure it will be best use of Lalor so there is a spot for a Rowell type big bodied mid as there is for a speedy mid.

Eyeing of Greeves and Grlj but Sharp is probably better than Greeves at that tough in the clinches work, Greeves more versatile like our other 2.

Grlj gives us exactly what you want.

100% need another ruck but watching GC'S own unicorn top 10 pick ruck, it's a slowwwww burn.

If Eagles don't take him with the other 🤔

You'd think Duursma the other on their radar as VC kid but one brother has already bailed home, sister bailed and brother in law thinking about it.

And watching Grundy, it’s a fast decent on the backside of your prime when your best skill is “ruckman who’s like an extra mid”.

Maybe they take him to keep Reid happy.

I wonder if we could do something like take Grlj with our first pick and then look to trade back a little to gain some extra draft capital and take someone like Lindsay later in the first round to give us that HB distributor that we're lacking and either gain a pick to use for Kellaway bid or to get someone else in on top of that pick as well.

Grlj will start off back flank.

Plus we can find our Rioli replacement in 2026 or 27 as our pick hopefully moves from top 5 to top 10.

I.e

Cotchin @ 2 or Martin @ 3 vs Vlastuin @ 9 or Bellis @ 15

Sharp isn’t in my top 5 options for pick 1 …. Not enough versatility. PASS

Wouldn’t work well with what we already have in midfield

If we've got the chance to do it now and open up the possibility of using the 26/27 picks for trading for established talent I'd prefer that plus we've got a number of Academy/Father Son options coming through in those years.
