Curtin and Fred around the top 10, potentially Swadling later and then Koby Evans and Walley for free with the academy
Rebuild complete

CDT will slip due to how long it takes to develop a ruck... De Koning debut in 2018 and only now in the last two years he has come about? He is 26

Thats why Samson ryan should be hitting form now... unfortunately he cant at AFL level

Luke Jackson, Nic Nat and Kreuzer all went top three in their drafts as ruckman.

Whilst they’re not genuine ruckman Sam Darcy and Mac Andrew are both over 200cm’s and went in the top five of their recent drafts.

I totally understand the argument that we don’t see a lot of rucks or 200cm players taken early in the draft. However, the talent-pool of players that height is quite limited so they only represent a small portion of the players available to draft which is also why we don’t see as many of them drafted.

Could our first round pick slide even further if north Melbourne ask for another assistance package? Perhaps another early priority pick?

There are so many possible solutions that don’t detrimentally impact every other club, but the afl has had a bigger brain drain then Russia over my lifetime so I’m not holding my breath.

But how about they get:

  • 10 rookie list spots allowing them to turn over a shit tonne of players fast and maybe unearth some gems and maybe find some hard workers
  • an extra 1-2 million in footy department cap so they can hire extra development coaches etc.
  • Improve their academy or give them similar eligibility rules as the northern ones to increase the pool of players they can get for a few years.

Also why they are so hard to figure out their potential as they are not competing against a similar talent-pool. Jon Patton, Tom Boyd and Josh Schache all big players who dominated juniors as much because they were simply massive.

CDT is both way better athletically than 95% of CTL, he’s also huge. He’s so physically and athletically dominant in that league it’s hard to gauge how good he actually is.

Personally reckon we trade Lalor to WC for pick 1 and then we get him back when we are in our window

There's also been plenty of smaller players and midfielders who have been drafted early and flopped. Blokes like Paddy Dow, Jimmy Toumpas, Jon O'Rourke, Tom Scully, Sam Petreski-Seton are all top ten picks then come to mind who were highly rated kids who dominated their juniors but didn't convert that to the AFL

Even when you look at some of the recent first round picks we've made who have haven't worked out like RCD, Corey Ellis and Ben Lennon were all not KPP.

I can totally appreciate that taller players will take longer to develop and the risk is increased but I feel the narrative is being oversold to much on this board.

I’m not sold on Greeves maybe only as we have Smilie they are similar.
Sharp we need in the midfield to replace Taranto.
Grlj or Rodriguez for outside speed. A mix of all types in the middle.

I was heavily into CDT early on but maybe the time to develop a ruck is a set back. Or it’s an opportunity knowing that all of our players will be in there primes at the same age.

I myself am fine paying dollars for a ruck elsewhere.

Richmond aren’t going to compete anytime soon. So they may as well develop together. I still think we are going to end up with pick 1/2 this year and probably picks 1-4 next year. I think with more retirements and aging in the older guys we will see some drop.

God help us if Nank goes down, Ryan is definitely not AFL standard .
There’s a guy playing for Coburg - Cooper Keogh , who competes like Nank, is a great athlete with a massive tank. He’s got Samson and our cat B boys covered by a long way.

Re CDT, I’m looking forward to watching him at the Nationals and seeing how he performs at the combine. I hope he goes head to head with the other state’s best ruckman. You want to see more than just a very good ground level player.

Whatever we do just please don't draft Duursma. [PLAYERCARD]Cale Morton[/PLAYERCARD] clone.

I'm firmly in the CDT, Greeves, Grilj, Wright, Fred, Lindsay camp. If we can get 2 of them with our picks it would be great way of balancing out our current list needs.

see how well he does at championships, who knows Blair might love the kid.

Well we are at round 7 and get Clarke back in the VFL this week and will get Hotton back later in the year
Alger is going extremely well for a kid thats only just turned 18 and smillie is due back soon

By the time the draft comes we will know exactly the type of player we need and which players in the draft start to perform that fills our projected list build and select accordingly or trade for a player we really want.

Maybe we can just convince Reid and trade for him without paying through the nose
But just the thought of Butters & Reid in our current team gets the juices flowing ;)

I can't find any other potential first rounders from WA outside of Fred and Curtin, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough ...

Lol

Sam Swadling I think is a 1st round talent. Blake Kelly late 1st/early 2nd.

Whan would be top 10 if not linked to Freo imo

Genuinely pissing myself that people disliked this post as if I was serious hahahah

Youre clearly bigfooty casuals

I feel we need to find two more gun mids. I believe Hotton will be more of a small forward/midfielder, rather than a pure mid. We need quality ball users and outside runners to compliment our potential midfielder of the future. I think Blair knows this which is why he made a point of selecting a swath of talls last draft and larger mids that take are multi-dimensional. Next draft will be the ball users and perhaps small forwards (if there is a standout.)

I hear that there is a superstar ruck rover we could select. At this stage, I'd be worried if we did that. You have to wait a long time just to see if they come good and rucks are relatively easy to acquire via the trade when you are in your window. Star mids are more difficult to pry out of teams.

So, if it was me, I'd aim for two mids this draft and then look to fill holes beyond that.
