I want Latrelle Sumner-Pickett; yes I am mentioning him again to be selected with our second pick which is pick 40 and it should go up once all the clubs with NGA/FS/Academy picks have been used to match bids right?

Why would we waste our 2nd round pick on a 20 year old we could quiet easily get as a pre season sup pick up

Guy knows how to kick goals and the draft talent not being there this year.

Believe me, I would love to draft some young talent in Harvey Barker or Taj Murray but that small forward position is something Port lacks a lot and I don’t want other clubs pouncing on him given the chance.

I'm not convinced we lack "a lot" in small forward. I agree we don't have a direct Rioli replacement and I'd like one which of course can be Latrelle-Sumner but just my general opinion. I think he'd be available later in the draft as well but will know more as we get closer.

Every club “lacks in small forward” if you’re criteria is an old school notion of a natural small forward.

There isn’t much around, and for a reason. The afl doesn’t value them.

Any small forward that is actually any good, becomes a midfielder sooner rather than later.

Teams use players who fail in other positions and use them as small forwards. See us with spp and Dbj. It’s not just a port thing, all clubs do it.

We should absolutely be looking for small forwards who are a scoring threat, tho I don’t think we should invest heavily doing so. Very hit and miss in the draft, and role players can do a job.

As for sumner Pickett, he wasnt eligible for mid season draft as he hasn’t nominated for a previous draft I believe was the reason twomey gave from memory

We’ve got far worse list needs than small forward right now, our defense is our oldest line by far and it’s getting crushed this year. Tho in a weak draft you prob need to draft anyone who looks likely to make it rather than trying to pick out needs

If you look at good teams, they seem to have a plethora of Midfielders, so many they spew into other positions. Feel at Geelong, Collingwood, Sydney, Brisbane, Hawthorn and GWS, arguably the most successful clubs by top 4 finishes in the last 8 years (no genuine data to back that claim up) have Josh Daicos, Zac Bailey, Dangerfield, Green, Reyner, Weddle, Amon etc. that are capable midfielders squeezed out.

I don’t feel at Port, DBJ, SPP, Farrell, Richards, Evans, Burgoyne, Burton… even to a few weeks ago Bergman, are or were capable midfielders squeezed out… Rozee possibly, but then Butters, JHF, Bergman, Wines, Drew, Boak, Mead ain’t feeling a top 4 or even top 8 Vibes. Boak done, Wines with Father Time approaching, Mead floundering. Need Jackson, Lorenz and those lads to come on. Still need more talent through the midfield. To much invested into our Ruckmen.

The club would know if anyone else is interested

Both of those are physical beasts. Marsh isnt that.

I see Marsh being a Bayley Fritsch type
Yea that’s fair. Low possession, high impact.

He’s a good player and will go high in the draft. Just feels too one dimensional at present. Think teams would hope he can develop power and an ability to pinch hit in the midfield.

Symptomatic of this draft - some good players, flashes of talent but lots of question marks.

I would be very nervous to spend a pick where people are saying he will go on a player hoping they turn into a fritsch type.

That’s a 25-50 pick type risk imo.

Tho likely we’re not picking high in this draft anyway.

Any signs marsh could be a defender? Reckon that’s a much safer bet for a quick strong marking 191cm player.

But that's exactly why this draft isn't great in the first round. The value you get in 1st round of this draft is the same as 2nd round.

Marsh could be more than a Fritsch type imo.

I see him as becoming the Georgiades or Logan Morris type. If he absolutely takes off from here he could reach the heights of peak Naughton too but needs to build some strength for that. There's a bit development to go for that imo.

Pity we didn't sent any one to America to see the those trying out for a CAT B position. We dont have to get anyone but at least we can look

Collingwood, St Kilda, Gold Coast, Hawthorn and Geelong sent someone to have a look at the athletes on trial

athletes: -

Jared Piontkowski 209cm 22-year-old from Pennsylvania (Volleyballer)
Jacob Guerber 209cm 24 -year-old from Arizona (Volleyballer)
Pierce Davis 206cm from Sacramento
Hayden Curtiss 211cm 22yr old who played soccer as a junior before switching to basketball (the 22-year-old known for his quick movement)
Malik Lamin 211cm and has grown up playing basketball and football from Utah
Joshua Van Gorp 209cm a college basketballer Iowa
Zane Foster 213cm a track and field athlete at high school but has played basketball from Northwest Nazarene University.
D'Auntray Pierce 206cm Radford University's looking to show his agility to clubs.

The AFL targeted players who were 206cm and above

There may also be some extra local-based Dallas athletes who join in the days of testing next week as clubs hit town and watch on for the three-day event

I don’t know why the obsession with Americans is always focused on 205cm+ giant ex basketball players when the most translatable sport position in America is American footballs cornerbacks.

These are generally 177-193cm guys quick as lightning and have to track receivers and prevent them catching the ball via spoiling or catching it themselves and there’s a lot of contact allowed so they’re used to that. Also have to tackle and stop pretty powerful guys. Strong , fast, have to track the ball in the air.

South Australia remains unbeaten in the under-18 national championships after a seven-goal haul from a mid-sized marking forward helped propel the side to a thumping 76-point win over Western Australia on Sunday.
The home side was dominant from start to finish at Alberton Oval, working their way to a game-high margin of 82 points during the final term before eventually running out victors, 17.14 (116) to 6.4 (40).
South Australian captain and top-10 draft prospect Dyson Sharp was again a class above, rotating between midfield and forward roles and finishing with 33 disposals, six clearances, seven tackles and two goals.
However, the performance of one of Sharp’s Central District teammates – Cameron Nairn – was also a big talking point out of the match.
South Australia 4.5 7.8 12.12 17.14 (116)
Western Australia 1.1 3.1 4.2 6.4 (40)

BEST – SA: Cameron Nairn, Dyson Sharp, Sam Cumming, Bayln O’Brien, Bryce Sanders, Harley Barker, Aidan Schubert, Sam Ainsworth, Mitchell Marsh, Louis Kellaway.

GOALS – SA: Cameron Nairn 7, Dyson Sharp, Mitchell Marsh 2, Aidan Schubert, Zane Peucker, Jesse Nye, Sam Cumming, Tim Alver, Sam Ainsworth 1.
