Any lockdown small defenders whether it'll they are mature or not? Any players that stands out? Preferable someone with some speed and mongrel.
Feel like you rarely ever find a lockdown small defender from the draft immediately. It's a role that really no one wants to play at lower levels while they're trying to catch recruiters eyes.

But I'm really starting to like Dahlitz and his season. Kinda gives me Angus Clarke vibes from last year

Any mature agers across the leagues that stands out?

What type of defender is he? Just taking a look at his numbers this year, guy seems to find the pill quite a bit and even got a 42 disposal game.

Where would he go in the draft?

As a lockdown defender, no one comes to mind. Generally, I've liked Louie Montgomery's season all year and there's big talk about him coming out of GWS. Still F/S eligible to us as long as he wants to be so that'd be interesting.

Takes the game on, has some burst and speed and can intercept. Somewhere late 2nd onwards but more likely 3rd I'd say. He's only kinda staked him claim in the latter half of the year so in my eyes there's not as much runs on the board as some others.

For the sake of team balance, I want us to invest our first pick in the draft in a goal-scoring, electric small forward followed by an inside midfielder. We can then round out our draft with a tight checking small-mid defender with our later pick.

Add Brodie and Wehr as FAs/cheap trades to have some different mature bodies for midfield and defensive depth.

Given that we won’t be drafting in the first round, any talls may need to be 20-25 yo state-league types.

This is how I see it too.

Draft:
24 - Sumner-Pickett or other goal kicking small forward
42 - Trade to 2026 for points
60 - big inside mid

F/S:
Rome Burgoyne
Louie Montgomery

If we are able to offload Soldo, I would look at a cheap DFA like Barnett, Verrall or maybe Caleb May. Someone who physically isn’t years away.

Other list changes will need to be cheap or DFA’s. Neither Brodie or Wehr excite me but I understand why we would looks to fill those spots with experience rather than a skinny teenager.

I imagine we’ll use our salary cap to buy picks if possible. Maybe we can get a future 3rd for taking on Brodie. Maybe the same for paying Soldo to be anywhere else.

Lincoln Pitt ruck playing for Westies U18s is someone I would pick using our late pick ie 60+ or rookie.

Has a bit of mongrel and aggression about him. A low cost replacement for Soldo if he leaves/traded/delisted one of the 3.

It’s a weak draft for talls and the state leagues have been picked bare through successive MSDs.

Indy Cotton as a cat B would probably be the best we could hope for.

Taj Murray as a late ruck forward.

Would be surprised if sumner-Pickett went before the third round.
I would only be interested if Cody Curtin was still on the board purely for the brotherly rivalry. Other than that, I would pass on the talls unless they are a mature ager and take a punt on a ruck in the rookie draft.

West Coast co-captain Oscar Allen has reportedly informed the club of his desire to move to the Brisbane Lions as a free agent. As Allen is a free agent, he can change clubs without the need for a trade. But because Allen is a restricted free agent, the Eagles have the power to match any offer he receives or take the AFL’s compensation, which could be Pick 2.

how we should go

Draft:
24 - look at Cody Curtin (200cm KPF / KPD), Jovan Phillipou (Mid), Archie Ludowyke (197 cm KPF)

42 - Trade to 2027 for equal pick - (to use on the bumper draft crop)

60 - at Sumner-Pickett

later picks look at

F/S:
Rome Burgoyne, Louie Montgomery, Ben Francou (the youngest Francou)

maybe look at Watkins (from Port) or 208cm Caleb May (from westies)

4 games then delisted. i’d imagine it was almost a disadvantage to us.

he also spent significant time at norwood and at the crows as an assistant coach so i expect the kids grown up leaning that way.

Apart from JHF, the Crows list management team have been a lot better than ours over the last 5 years and those chickens are coming home to roost.

Dawson, Rankine, Neal-Bullen, Peatling and Cotton.

I think Koch’s obsession with polishing the turd hasn’t helped us as a Club understand that our recruiting and development are well off the pace.

That's disappointing, but what can you do? The wheel is turning. It's up to us to strengthen our squad through all means. We became complacent and it's our turn to reverse that.

I saw an interview with Newcastle United (EPL) manager Eddie Howe who is very strong on squad unity and said we only want players who want to be here. That's always been the Port Adelaide way too, us against the world. Carry knows that and how to exploit that mentality.

The complacency goes beyond the senior coaching position so hopefully there is an honest reckoning across the Club of where it is at.
