4 games then delisted. i’d imagine it was almost a disadvantage to us.

he also spent significant time at norwood and at the crows as an assistant coach so i expect the kids grown up leaning that way.

Was delisted brutally too. Snowdon told him at best and fairest night after he received an award for playing his first game.

Yep I think you might be right, that seems to ring a bell.

Apart from JHF, the Crows list management team have been a lot better than ours over the last 5 years and those chickens are coming home to roost.

Dawson, Rankine, Neal-Bullen, Peatling and Cotton.

I think Koch’s obsession with polishing the turd hasn’t helped us as a Club understand that our recruiting and development are well off the pace.
In that time, we’ve brought in JHF, Lukosius, Richards, BZT, Ratugolea and Sweet. Not a disaster by us, but we’ve given up more draft capital and have not secured the same quality of first, second and third round draftees that make Adelaide’s list deeper into the future.

JHF was a ready made talent. The rest are cast offs who were no longer required by better teams (except the bombers). And, if Essendon think you're expendable, then you've got no hope lol.

Carn. Geelong were desperate to keep Rat. Bulldogs wanted to keep Sweet. Collingwood wanted to keep Richards.

That's disappointing, but what can you do? The wheel is turning. It's up to us to strengthen our squad through all means. We became complacent and it's our turn to reverse that.

I saw an interview with Newcastle United (EPL) manager Eddie Howe who is very strong on squad unity and said we only want players who want to be here. That's always been the Port Adelaide way too, us against the world. Carry knows that and how to exploit that mentality.
Sell Isak then FFS Eddie!

Could also just be that he’s 18, playing against men for a full season for the first time, and got tired.
I suspect and hope it’s this. He does need to find some extra speed though and become a more discerning decision maker and kick. He’s one of these guys who looks like he should be an elite kicker but really just kicks nice drop punts without them being penetrating or well weighted.

I noticed Rome Burgoyne has dropped off significantly, hoping we are hiding him or something as I believe most here think he should be on the AFL list
I still don't know what to make of him. Looked ok against Norwood did some nice things. He's also looked below standard at times during the season. He has a decent leg on him. Might improve with a good pre-season.

The draft isn’t great. If we look at the last couple of spots on the list Rome is as likely or unlikely as anyone else.

Might as well give him a run.

It is likely the lack of conditioning and a decent foundation has brought him undone at the end of the year here.

Lol

They were just driving up the price knowing how we let other teams dictate terms.

Esava was always gone. There was no keeping him. They weren’t desperate to keep him, they just took a tactical position in trade week based on past evidence how we would react.

If this isn’t the greatest sign of some internal reflection required, I don’t know what on earth is… we are no longer a destination club, drank our own bathwater for too long, as many of us on here are well aware of! Stability doesn’t equal success in an elite environment, the ruthless, pursuit of perfection does.

The white noise has been right all along, admit it and rectify it!

We are not in a great place, however with change comes opportunity…

Has anyone ever looked at Byron Jr?
Rookie possibly, playing in a bush Leauge, standard is well below Div 6 Ammo footy, some times you have 40 year old farmers on One and a Half legs making the numbers up in that comp. But you can not knock his ability to hit the scoreboard this year. Could do FAR worse than give a minimum rookie deal.

If you removed the obvious rorts (Rodan, Hodge, Blakey being in academies), removed the discounts, tighten NGA qualification, it wouldn’t be a bad system.
Need to fix compensation picks too. Who is going to give WC Pick 2 for Oscar Allen? Nobody given his injury history, yet that's likely what they'll get for him.

Not sure how to fix the compo pick because the AFL will never release the herbs and spices of the formula but regarding all the F/S, NGA and Northern Academies, remove the discount completely and make clubs fully paid the price to acquire such talent.
The discount isn't even the issue in my eyes. I don't mind a small discount.

It's the fact you can stack a bunch of picks to make up the points. ie. For a pick 1 match, you can throw a bunch of mid picks together to get the points. Yet if you were to offer the club with pick 1 those picks, they'd stop talking to you for being so absurd.

For me, it's simple. You need to give up what the pick is worth or close to. Want a pick 1 match? Ok, pony up the points, BUT one of those picks needs to be within 9 picks (half the number of teams in the comp), AND THEN you add your buffer picks to gain the points.

Pick1 match = pick 9 + pick 25 or whatever, and suddenly it's not so much of a rort.

Potentially also limit the NUMBER of points for NGA/F/S that can be bid on by each team, so you don't get the Ashcroft situation of back to back number 1 picks followed by likely NGA picks this season.
