You and others said Watkins was a certainty for the SSP and MSD and neither of those happened. It was obvious it wouldn't happen. If he was going to be drafted it would have been by North Melbourne in the 2023 or 2024 draft, but why would they? There are plenty of state league players who are bigger, more athletic and better skilled.

The only way things could change is Butters gets to make list decisions.

Same for McLennan, already proven in the state leagues, havent learnt anything new this year. Not getting drafted.

Burgoyne needs to find some athleticism
I never said he's a certainty for SSP because I didn't even know who he was. I also don't recall saying he's a certainty for MSD because I got told a week before MSD that he's not even under consideration.

I did hold an opinion though that I'd pick him up via MSD, which is very different from saying he will certainly get picked. I'd have still picked him above Mackinlay. The 2nd half of the year our contested possession numbers plummeted because of injuries and he could've helped a little with that.

The Lions won the premiership, traded in Allen and Draper, and still sit 7th in the draft points ranking. This is after loading up on generational F/S picks in the last few years.

They are NeuGeelong.
Even with the leg ups they have it still comes back to being a professionally run club.
I’m jealous of that mainly because we used to be run that way.

Given sa won the champs easily in a weak year, you would think its a yearcto pick some sa talent with our nothing picks. Cook, Nairn and Ainswerth seem like they would be worth a late pick. Pickett could be available?

Not that I necessarily agree with the club's position on this, but I would be surprised to see any picks other than rookie elevations being made on draft night. Pick 49 will be traded out at some point. 85 and 121 will come in to be 55-65 range.

But if we were to take someone at that range, I really like the look of Zane Peucker

Yep not once did they accept "near enough is good enough" or celebrate their failures like we have. They just kept working at it til they got there and now they're looking as scary as any team has ever looked in my lifetime.

Pick 49 hanging on for dear life, Cripps said we might take it to the draft and off-load it on the night.

I bet he will try and get into the last 30 minutes of mayhem during the lock in tomorrow and upgrade it to help desperate list managers get a big trade over the line.

I think maybe he would get better value keeping it for draft night. Clubs tend to do some bat-shite crazy stuff on the night in order to get someone they want.

Surely there is also a scenario where someone is sliding and we can't believe it and we use 49 and f2 to go up the board

Club won't take a first rounder this year is what I've been told. In any way. They do not rate it whatsoever.

So when Cripps said it was an even draft he meant like sludge at the bottom of Lake Baikal in Siberia.

I agree to an extent with the club's position but also not fully. I personally wouldn't have traded out of this draft in the 2nd and 3rd round but the club does more due diligence than I do so I'll trust them on this.

To put it simply, my general take on this draft is that from top to bottom its a bunch of 2nd round picks when compared to other drafts (there are a couple of prospects that are exception to this who will go top 5 on the night, but this is just my general take)

The club sees it the same way but considers it to be a big bunch of 3rd round picks. So they've opted to elect out of this completely.

I could live with waiting to see if some one slides to our first (49 - but could drop to around 40'ish) on the night.

If not, to then trade that pick with next year's 3rd rounder, for a 2026 mid 2nd rounder.

That would leave us with picks 85, 121 and (potentially) 139 this year.

Those will come down to the 60's/70's on the night. We can then use those in the Rookie Draft, or for any impressive SSP's over pre season.

I would say that we will keep 49 in our back pocket with Gold Coast having first access to it if they need it for points and trade for Essendon's future 3rd Round. In the unlikely event of something better being offered we'll take it. We'll upgrade the 3 guys and that's all folks.
