There is a lot of shit baging of this draft, but it will take a special effort to be worse than the 2020 Covid draft.

Ugle Hagan being a dickhead contributes to the low output levels of that draft, but it is looking very poor after 5 seasons.

Arguably the best player of the lot of them was missed in both the main and rookie drafts and the SSP and wasn't picked up until mid 2021 - Jai Newcombe.

As Long live PAFC said above there is a degree of short term thinking given the impact of Tassie will be significant and recruiters and clubs being risk averse to long term development.

There will be some gems produced by this draft and subsequent rookie, SSP and mid season draft next year that didn't go top 5, 10 or 20.

2020 is a horrible draft. Gulden and Holmes are the exceptions.

I just read Holmes draft profile. He basically had played almost zero football and was projected as a late/rookie pick off his athletics profile.

Gulden dropped because he was short.

Maybe port should draft a short athlete?

Holmes, Gulden and Thilthorpe all before Newcombe.

Newcombe is actually a 2019 draft kid though born in 2001.
I might be wrong which year was his draft year but if it was 2019 he automatically is included in the 2020 draft.

The reason I say he is arguably the best player, is because he performs in finals. 3 BOGs in his first 3 finals puts him in rare air.

Catching up on a fair bit of vision recently and mainly on the SA boys that I think will be around our picks at 49 and 85 that will come into low 40s and mid 50s.

If Peucker is there at our second pick I'd absolutely take him. There's lots of AFL traits to work with.

There will definitely be rule changes for next year so I'm not sure how much trading a 3rd round pick for a 3rd round next year will help us in matching a bid for Cochrane if that is approved.

Personally think there's some talent to uncover and take a punt on after pick 35 onwards. If it were up to me I'd take the punt on BOB and Peucker. Both have shown enough to warrant a chance and would love them on our list. Peucker reminds me of a raw version of Zac Bailey

Thilthorpe still has an elite ceiling for mine - one of the best KPFs in the comp at 23.

Agree that there ain't much else in it though - Jimmy Rowe going at 38 is insane.

Thilthorpe is very good but he went at 2 so you would hope he is good. Lots of misses at the top of the draft and no depth.

It does seem like a draft to go for a couple of picks who haven't played a lot in the system. Im not into choose sa players but this seems like a good year to do that.

Port Twitter has blocked me but not Geoff Parker or Josh Carr

PS
Just had a 25k offer for this account

If we keep our pick, I've loved Fred Rodriguez since seeing him as a junior last year. So if he's there, at the very least I think he's very good ball-winning midfield deprh, with the potential to be much more.
I think Port will take that pick 49 to the draft and that pick will become a pick in the early 40's after all the bids. I'm hoping we can draft a small forward.

Addy23 Ed Pascoe has Port taking Zane Peucker at 49

... and Cody Curtin as a rookie :eyes:
I would have thought Zane Peucker would be available as a rookie selection. Wouldn't mind Leon Kickett or Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier with our first pick.

Cody Curtin rookie selection is an interesting choice because Port are well positioned for KPP's and don't really need another one since there are a few coming in the next few drafts. Would make things interesting though seeing both brothers potentially play against each other.

Now there’s a name, Cody Curtin.

I knew of a girls with the surname roots.

First name Mia

Why is there always such a strong correlation between higher draft pick numbers and having names that simply seem totally made up.

Speaking of...fun fact. There has never before been an AFL player without a vowel in their surname:

Was very interesting to see that BOB was going to Crows at 48 as well. Those 2 would be my first two picks for 49.

There's a wide range for Peucker. There's some clubs that have him in late 2nd rounder. There's some in rookie. I'm happy to call his name out with a 3rd rounder. I love the way he plays.

Fwiw I think he's bolting up draft boards in recent weeks. So I would be slightly surprised now if he ended up in the rookie draft.

it would be an interesting choice picking Cody (as he has vibes of being like Dixon) being a KPF ... we would have to decide if we want a Dixon replacement or not.

rookie central mentions - his draft range 35 - 50
They also mention - he has a powerful presence & hardly loses a physical jostle. his sheer size makes opponents panic & if he can't mark, he draws free kicks. he has reliable conversion kicking 32.9 in 9 WAFL colt games. he is dangerous one out close to goal.
He also chopped out as a ruck & KPD in 2024 he as a defender did jobs on Jack Whitlock & Carlie Nicholls.
The main concern with Curtin is his speed, running power and ability to cover the ground.

I think if we want him, (if he is still there) it would be at pick 49 after that he would be gone

The cows would see him as a replacement for Tex, & to keep his brother at the club. They have picks 48, 55 & 64 to get him
Freo would like him (with him being a Freo supporter), and they have picks 47 & 69
West coast has picks 41 & 58 that could get him (and then they can make a play for his brother in the coming years)
