Be nice if we had our 1st round pick thenGood news, we’re gonna finish bottom four.![]()
We've never replaced Wakelin with anyone near his output. Too long ago.If he plays like his old man then that is just what the doctor ordered.

Is there a world we can get Sharp and Cochrane - if it means losing Butters and Bergman (and no NWM)
Keeping butters is still the better resultIs there a world we can get Sharp and Cochrane - if it means losing Butters and Bergman (and no NWM)
Love the traits he possesses, but if you look at our midfield I'd say we need a clearance beast. Someone that can use their strength and power in contest. Currently only JHF and Wines can do that (and Wines is fading), while Butters and Rozee do the evasive moves (which is also needed). And the guy that suits that need perfectly is Sharp.Surely we gotta go for Riley Onley given his ability to play a TDK type role.

Saying that, I think Onley is definitely more versatile and perhaps has a higher ceiling.
butters ane rozee can get clearences as well
look at butters clearence numbers last 2 years, had 9 on the weekend, led the game.
i think it would have been the big 3 together (butt roz jhf.Buckley said last year that Butters and Rozee shouldnt play in mid together because theyre both competing too much for the ball. Something along those lines. Or it might have been with JHF as a third. Id have to find the ep of on the couch
JHF is damaging forward. If we get the midfield righti think it would have been the big 3 together (butt roz jhf.
Butters rozee drew
and
JHF Butters drew i think were our best midfield combination last year.
Strange comment by Bucks.Buckley said last year that Butters and Rozee shouldnt play in mid together because theyre both competing too much for the ball. Something along those lines. Or it might have been with JHF as a third. Id have to find the ep of on the couch
I think the point was that they all attack, which means there's no-one left to defend. Rozee is the worst for this, runs an attacking pattern and doesn't work hard enough to defend if it doesn't pan out.Strange comment by Bucks.
Butters, JHF, Drew & Wines are the 4 that compete with each other for contested ball.
Rozee is the outside receiver type, so he can comfortably sit in the midfield mix.
When he takes a break, then he can slot on HBF or up forward.
Need to avoid putting any more than 2 of the other 4 together at any point in time, with them all being too similar.
And that’s the thing, oppo coach makes a move and works, our coach doesn’t react.Lyons engineered an extra into stoppage last week that killed us, could we do the same with a defensive mid type into the mix.
My point more so being that Rozee and Butters get clearances using their legs, evading opponents and driving it out while normally JHF and Wines go in and under and use their strength and power to get clearances. We lack the latter, especially after Wines departs.butters ane rozee can get clearences as well

yeah your right, i guess rozee and butters methods of getting clearences are much more difficult and rarer than the conventional way, getting a luke parker type would be ideal, im sure we can find a cheap bull, taylor adams? My point more so being that Rozee and Butters get clearances using their legs, evading opponents and driving it out while normally JHF and Wines go in and under and use their strength and power to get clearances. Nah no Taylor Adams, injured far too often and I don't trust our medicos. I'm open to Worpelyeah your right, i guess rozee and butters methods of getting clearences are much more difficult and rarer than the conventional way, getting a luke parker type would be ideal, im sure we can find a cheap bull, taylor adams?
In fairness we just couldn't make it happen, and a significant part of that was players inability to execute the plan. Ross obviously played it well, and I think it's easy to discredit Saints after round 1 loss but they're a much more refined team this year and we needed more than a last minute heroic effort. And that’s the thing, oppo coach makes a move and works, our coach doesn’t react.
I think we need to re-run the numbers with Wines in the ruck.this article last september: our best midfield combos
