Nice thought.

We just need picks before the Saints 😊
True - after the trade period prior to the draft

But There are 3 trade targets that the Saints have in their sights (Bergman - Port, De Koning - Carlton & Aleer - GWS) all 3 clubs are going to want a 1st round draft pick plus something else from the Saints for these players if they go (it will be difficult but not impossible for the saints to get deals done especially with the new rule that you can trade picks 2 years out (2025 - 2027)

If the Saints have a no trade policy for these players - Travaglia, NWM, King, Phillipou, Tauru, Garcia, Wilson and the 3 losing teams for the above players, dont want players over 25 or rookie players then they will have to start off discussions with something like this: -

1) 2025 draft 1st round pick & future 2 x 2nd from 2026 & 2027 draft or De Koning (Carlton gets extra picks in the next 3 drafts)

2)Alex Dobson or Isaac Keeler + 2026 draft 1st round pick for Bergman (this gives us something for this year in a player either 198cm Forward in Keeler or a Soldo replacement in Dobson + a 1st round pick to add to the deal to get Cochranes brother).

3) Arie Schoenmaker (Tasmania Devils) 194cm defender + 2027 1st round pick (GWS can then give a few years of games to Schoenmaker and then if they want, they can later on trade him to Tasmania when they come in for one of their high draft picks from the concessions Tassie will get to give GWS a very good draft hand in 2027 or 20280.

If something like this happens, we will 2 picks before them in this draft to get Phillipou's brother

Dekoning is a free agent, and if he chose saints it would be on a massive offer that blues wouldn’t and couldn’t match.

with De Koning as a free agent - we could have a choice either

1) Alex Dobson or Isaac Keeler + 2025 draft 1st round pick. As mentioned below in regard to the players but the 2025 - 1st round pick could be use in this draft (to try and get Sharp or Curtin) or to try and get a higher pick from West Coast, North or Richmond in the 2026 draft to try and get Cochrane's Brother

or

Those are shit trades for us to be honest.

Essentially a 1st round pick, likely 8-16 for Bergman.

Keeler or Dodson were late picks , developing and / or fringe players and don’t hold much value at all.

We paid something like 14 for Bergman and that was a win. Giving him up for a similar pick after developing him so we can gamble on luck to get a comparable player would be a loss.

It’s the kind of deal you might expect if he’s ooc and asked to be traded to the team with pick 1 in the psd.

Of course with our trading history …

Big body mid and tall mobile defender please. longer term Wines and Allir replacements
A big bodied midfielder who is a contested beast with skills. I would love to see what Bergman can do.

A tall mobile defender - all I'm asking for is great hands - a Chad Cornes type would do me.

A KPF who can take contested marks, kick goals and play 2nd ruck would be awesome as well - a young Charlie Dixon type. I hope Whitlock can muscle and do that job in the future.

Those trades were starting points in discussions for the possible trade ...

I am curious to see who we try and get in the next 2 drafts.
Hopefully we try for Sharp or Curtin in the 2025 draft or Cochrane in the 2026 draft ???

Do we try and get both by getting both by getting the Saints 1st round picks in both 2025 or 2026 ?

Do we try and load up for the 2026 draft with draft picks from several of other clubs to have a good shot at Cochrane

Maybe we could get a first round pick from either 2025 or 2026, a 2nd round pick from either 2025 or 2026 and Dodson as 3rd ruck (behind Sweet / Dante) so we can get rid of Soldo

or

Maybe we could get a first round pick from either 2025 or 2026, a 2nd round pick from either 2025 or 2026 and Keeler 198cm forward / ruck (& maybe mobile intercepting defender) thus replacing Finlayson

note: -
Getting Sharp to support JHF for 10+ years ...
Getting Curtin as a very good KPP (it is something we haven't had for years)
and getting Cochrane would be a combination of both Sharp & Curtin

It would also be interesting to see the cow supporters melts if we get either Dodson or Keeler (as they wanted Dodson as a replacement for all their ruck group and they had Keeler in their NGA but couldn't bid on him at the time).

Early thoughts with view that we dont have a 1st rounder. Rory Wright, tough inside mid, good at inside clearances, elite left leg, strong overhead, smaller at 183cm, Cody Curtain , Hybrid tall hence can go back and forward, good overhead, poor at ground level, the widcard, not a need specifically but Jevan Phillopou , just has that x factor.

The more I see of this crop, the more I understand the willingness to give up our first rounder. Now obviously we didn’t think it would be a top 5 pick, and hopefully it isn’t, but it’s not a super strong group and the first 40 are compromised with Academy picks, NGAs and FSs. Clubs may be searching for picks to match bids as well, so it’s hard to know how that’ll pan out.

I think it’ll be very hard to pick the eyes out of this draft but we will have to.

I hope Ben Francou and Gil Wakelin does a Clayton Oliver and performs the living sh1t out of themselves to throw themselves into 1st contentions among other players.

Why are there never any Jai Newcombe type on ballers in the sanfl? We're always looking at skinny kids who can't kick over a jam jar and have been overlooked in multiple drafts.

Nah we wouldn't want both in 1st round contentions. For starters I don't think they'll be near it but even then it'll cost us a lot. I'd rather take them as speculative 2nd round picks
