That sounds like Justin Clarke, but I wasnt aware of him kicking 100 goals in a season.

Clarke played in defence for Brisbane, concussion ended his career after a few years, went back to full time engineering study and won a Rhodes Scholarship.
Sorry I changed subject - Byron Pickett Junior kicked over 100 goals for Western United this season. I compared him to Clarke as a player who came out of a country league into the AFL system.

I've read some stuff on Clarke, including a long article in the 'Tsier's weekend magazine 2 or 3 years ago, after he won the Rhodes Scholarship.

He only played 1 game for North reserves, they couldn't convince him to leave the family farm and drive to Adelaide for training and to play. That 1 game meant he could nominate for the draft. What he did in that 1 game, saw several scouts go up and watch him play in a knockout final in the Northern Areas Football Association.

Poor bloke really wanted to fly planes for the RAAF. He had his pilot's licence before his car licence. He is very bright, passed all his RAAF tests, but being close to 200cms the RAAF said he was too tall for their planes. Think that's why he decided to play that reserves game and see if anyone was interested in drafting him.

Edit 2011 Advertiser article on Clarke not the 2021 Weekend Magazine one.

24
#9 compo added for De Koning to Carlton
#20 compo added for Draper to Essendon (finished 15th)
#21 compo added for Silvangni to Carlton ( 11th)
#22 priority pick WCE

24 is now 28

42
Add 4 above
and
#41 Compo pick for Worpell to Hawks

42 is now 47

60 and 78 is now 65 and 83.

Free agency trades to come - Oscar Allen, Brandon Starcevich will be a trade if WCE get pick #2 compo for Allen from the herbs and spices formula.

Brody Mihocek will join Melbourne as an unrestricted free agent.
Port Adelaide have secured the services of 27-year-old Jacob Wehr as a delisted free agent.
Melbourne forward Charlie Spargo has joined North Melbourne as an unrestricted free agent

Curnow, Petracca, Merrett, Steele, May and Oliver will be trades not free agent movements.

Any chance Harley Baker slips through to pick 27? He’s athletic, has good skills, and is dangerous in the air. Wehr and Morales will probably get a shot on the wing, while Burgoyne might shift back to the half-back line.
Possibly, his ACL injury might worry some and let him slide. For us, we have to pick the best small forward available if we don't get one via a trade

I like the look of him but small forwards are a pressing need.

The AFL has sent through the top 10s from a few tests at the draft combine from the weekend, and there are some really interesting results here:

  • Sam Grlj second in the 2km and ninth in the 20m is excellent. He wouldn't have been far from the top 10 in the agility either.
  • Cooper Duff-Tytler's results for a 200cm ruck/forward are remarkable.
  • Strong return from Willem Duursma, who also did well in the vertical leap.
  • Lachie Dovaston's time in the agility test is one of the best ever recorded.

Getting into territory where we have to take draftees now, especially now Fiorini isn't happening. Have list spots so we might just need to take the punt

How are we saying that surname: Grill, Greel, Girl, Gruel? It's how the spelling of old George's name started, and that was just pronounced as a short Grl, although often as Groolasich.
