In all seriousness, I thought we needed to keep 3 picks, and then use them to either upgrade rookies or take players.
Don't think we have to select anyone new from the draft pool, but at least upgrade through the main draft.
All picks that are traded out are always replaced with ones at the end of the draft, so a club maintains enough picks to fill all its empty list spots.

Yep, whatever happens from now, Port will take 2-3 picks that will likely end up in the 60s or 70s once everyone has passed. Basically playing with house money to pick up whatever dregs are on other lists.

Not where you want to be, but it is the lot that the bald ones have left for us.

yeah so I think we aren't allowed to trade 85 and 103. And on draft night we'll be allocated 1 or 2 more right at the back (depending on how many list spots we have open going into the night) which we will use to upgrade rookies.

Meh. Would prefer the extra picks for next year or 2027.

So 6 list spots right? 3 for Durdin, Wehr and Brodie. Upgrade three rookies and we have three rookie spots right? Wonder if we’re planning on waiting to see what washes through and give them a train on opportunity?
Watkins will be one of the rookies. Almost as good as done deal that unless someone picks him ahead of us.

Question will remain on other rookie prospects like Rome Burgoyne, McLennan. I dont think they'll give those 2 a spot.

You and others said Watkins was a certainty for the SSP and MSD and neither of those happened. It was obvious it wouldn't happen. If he was going to be drafted it would have been by North Melbourne in the 2023 or 2024 draft, but why would they? There are plenty of state league players who are bigger, more athletic and better skilled.

The only way things could change is Butters gets to make list decisions.

Same for McLennan, already proven in the state leagues, havent learnt anything new this year. Not getting drafted.

Burgoyne needs to find some athleticism

I know you're asking it as a joke, but do the rules even allow us to trade the pick?
If someone is stupid enough to want a round 5 or round 6 pick, why would the AFL stop it?

Geelong wanted and got pick 94 in the Ratugolea trade. When we traded Lobbe we traded him for pick 95 and didn't use it. I'm sure if you checked non-Port trades there would be similar types of mid 90's to low 100's trades over the last decade or so.

Premiership player Billy Frampton swam around in this puddle and came out grinning from ear to ear.

After he won the flag I looked at how he moved;

Pick 84 by us in 2014
2019 - Traded to crows for GWS' Rd 4 pick 2020, and via a couple of trades ended up at Adelaide and not used in Covid draft

2022- Traded to Collingwood for Pies Rd 3 pick 2023 - then on traded to GC, on traded to Hawthorn and on draft night traded to Port (ended up as pick 52) and we used it to draft Lachie Charleson who was a bust and cut a few ago after 2 seasons. Like a full circle, we didn't get much - twice - but Billy has a medal.

Didnt Geelong draft Lawson Humphries with one of those picks or was that a pick earlier?

I actually dont think its "stupid" tbh. You take a punt on a player and with a strong development squad you could make something out of nothing

Geelong drafted George Stevens (58) and Lawson Humphries (63) with the two end of draft picks we gave them.

Yes pick 94 turned into the 2nd last pick used in the 2023 draft which ended up being pick 63 and Humphries, but if Geelong had a list opening they still could have taken Humphries without Port's pick.

If a club went into a draft with 10 vacancies on its list, and used 6 of them by pick 59, ie 59 was their pick and 60 was the last pick used by 17 other clubs, then they would have picks 61, 62, 63 and 64 if they wanted to fill their last 4 vacant slots on their primary list.

Where would Ramm, MacKinlay and Liddy sit in this draft?

Feels like Ramm would be comfortably in the best talls available and MacKinlay and Liddy would sit in that 25-40 crop.
I’m bullish about Liddy and increasingly, MacKinlay. Think both can be AFL material. Maybe not first 23 in a premiership side, but solid contributors to a premiership calibre squad.
