Funny how last year’s minor premiers and grand finalists all have two picks before we have our first.
Yeah but at least we got to swap Dan Houston to Jack Lukosius for the privilege.

If we weren’t dumb enough to give up that first, we could have an extra first in the 27 draft for dougie now
Either that or Port could have demanded GC give pick 23 in last year’s draft in return. I recall a reporting that Collingwood were concerned Port was gonna get picks 13 and 23 from GC at that time.

Port would have ended up with picks 13, 23, 29, 36 and 50 before all the bids came into play.

I'm finding the sam ainswerth story confusing. He came from obscurity, was played out of position and made the all Australian side. I get that he is probably too short to make it as a ruck but he could revert to defence and be a project tall.

2025 has been somewhat of a whirlwind for Sam Ainsworth. The Norwood prospect only played four bottom-age games in the SANFL Under 18s last year, spending most of the season turning out for Tea Tree Gully. He harboured hopes of a state call-up in his top-age campaign having seen Ned Bowman do so before being drafted in 2024, though Ainsworth had never made a state squad to that point.

Fast forward to preseason and Ainsworth was looking to nail down a spot in the Redlegs’ backline. Though, a teammate’s injury presented the opportunity for him to instead ply his trade in the ruck – again, something he had never done before. Ainsworth took it all in his stride, performing well in the early stages of season proper and developing into a genuine revelation.

Matthew Richardson was pretty guarded at last weeks press conference with regards to Ahchee. Rather than ruling out whether we had spoken to Ahchee or his management he ffectively said that you would expect our recruiting and list management would be on top of things. That seems to leave things open to make a pre-season draft call on Ahchee. He would add to our list, particularly with SPP missing much of the season. On the other hand, I'm keen to get some younger guys in too.

Port has only three list spots available. I believe Port will use pick 49 to draft someone and I think it's a given that Jack Watkins will be taken via the rookie draft unless another club swoops him first which is more unlikely than likely and Port will leave one spot open for the SSP.

Personally would have preferred not to get Stephenson but Port did make a commitment to trial him in the pre-season to determine if he is serious enough via the SSP.

Seriously is Watkins worth it?
Just feels like a good SANFL player but not up to AFL.
