The interest in a tall forward is interesting given our depth in that department.

It does seem like Carr is determined to have a big body up there who can crash a pack and also play as a proper 2nd ruck.

I know people are critical of that role given the previous over reliance on Dixon but I think if that player is used as AN option rather than THE option it is still ab important role.

I get what you're coming from. But the rookie list wasn't designed to be used this way. It was designed to, like other mechanisms, grow the game by giving untried players a chance. Not give the likes of seasoned players an avenue to extend their careers.

If they want that, they should create a veterans spot
Or just call it a Supplementary list

Balyn O'Brien write up on RookieMe

You'd be hard pressed to find a more desperate, dogged defender than Balyn O'Brien. The Eyre Peninsula native has made a name for himself down back with his relentless desire to compete and trademark toughness. He came on strongly this year - his first in the South Australian state program - and ended up playing six SANFL League games for Norwood, including three finals.

O'Brien's defensive craft is not just built on brawn. He reads the play well and knows when to peel off to make intercepts, now finding a greater balance between killing the play or backing himself to mark. His aerial nous allows him to play taller than his 187cm standing, although O'Brien is just as adept at locking down smalls with his determined follow-up work and pressure.

Twomey says 49 most likely sent to gc for a future 3rd
This doesn't make sense to me tbh, we'd be trading pick 42 for pick 50+. Won't be able to use it to match Dougie's bid. I get that next year's draft is stronger but I am not a fan of completely exiting from a draft.

Still hoping we land Peucker somehow with a later pick in ND or rookie.

Twomey said our second pick will come into the 40s by the end of the draft as clubs tap out so it's almost a free pick for next year.

Among the players the Power have done work on are small forward Zane Peucker, ruckman Marcus Krasnadamskis, forward Liam Hetherton, VFL prospect Tobyn Murray and local midfielder Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier, while midfield pair Jack Dalton and Matt LeRay could also be in the mix deeper into proceedings. Tai Hayes, the cousin of St Kilda champion Lenny, is another player Port has looked at across the year in the VFL.

They also said to be swapping the Crows 48 for a future 3rd too. So maybe they have another one or 2027 3rd.

Oudshoorn-Bennier came into his top-age year with quite the reputation. He played back-to-back carnivals in the state Under 16 side and was included in last year’s Under 18 squad without playing a game. The now 18-year-old also captained North Adelaide as a bottom-ager and made his Reserves debut on the back of 17 outstanding junior performances, notching 26 disposals, eight marks and six clearances.
Backing up as captain for the Roosters in 2025, Oudshoorn-Bennier was one of just three players to have a 100 per cent attendance rate in the state preseason program, before going down with injury upon returning to North. He got back onto the park in Round 5 of the Under 18 season and improved with every game, building into the National Championships to help South Australia take out the title undefeated.
The Port Adelaide supporter, who moulds his game on the likes of Zak Butters and Nick Daicos, was then allowed to build on his Reserves experience with four appearances. They were middled by a pair of League games, with Oudshoorn-Bennier debuting in Round 18. He returned to the twos to run out a top-age season which almost ended before it began, playing a part in the Roosters’ finals campaign.

I know Josh Carr met with Noah RT this past week.

We seemed to be consistently linked with around half a dozen late pick types, so I imagine we will take one. There will be at least a couple left to choose from.

The thing about the small forward/mids linked to us - Peucker, Dalton, Byrne, Murray is they're all solid chunky builds who could play in year1

I just watched an extended interview with Max krasnadamskis. He had never played ruck until this year. Played wing, mid, back and forward. He had some negative experiences with basketball, mainly that it was very professional and not a lot of fun. He's obviously a very good athlete and likes the physicality and competitiveness of afl. He seems like a very high risk / high reward player/person.

Gc have essendons third. (2026)
Crows are trading 48 for Suns' F3 and we might be trading 49 for another Suns' F3.

Whoever ends up with the F3 that is tied to Bombers will probably end up with 10 spots higher in the draft next year with their F3. We should push for the Bombers' F3 as hard as possible.

In a perfect world for this draft, Port lands both Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier and Zane Peucker.

Would be extremely surprised if Port drafts Liam Hetherton due to the amount of tall forwards Port already has and with Cochrane and Pilot coming in the next few years, not the best choice if you ask me. Tobyn Murray is a mature ager but he has been in the Geelong program and they tend to produce players. So he could be a viable small forward option

Jack Watkins has already been mentioned to get rookie listed which I’m okay with but if it’s a strategy to keep Butters at the club, I’m not okay with it.

We are keeping one spot available over the summer and if Stephenson is serious about wanting an AFL career and puts in a mountain of work, I guess he will be in contention to claim that last spot.

I do not think we'll get Liam Hetherton too, seems like a pointless move.

Would also be shocked if we had more than 1 pick across both ND and RD (Watkins not included)

I agree. Jack Whitlock, Mitch Georigades, Jack Lukoisus and even Ollie Lord...I guess is enough for now. Even can throw in Todd Marshall if things are dire and has to switch from defence to forward. Would be piss poor to take in another tall forward now when there are other positions that needs addressing.

I'm guessing Port will take Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier if he is available and during the SSP period, take in a small forward. Whether that'll be Stephenson, who knows.

I wish Port had an extra list spot.😩
