In retrospect we probably should’ve said to NWM management if he requests a trade to use we will deal Butters out now to facilitate it.The problem with the trade isn’t who we got, it’s that after years of hearing , “you have to pay up for contracted players” , when we had a contracted and valued player we rolled over and showed our soft belly and said, have at it gents.
Then we had to listen to the excuses. What are we gonna do? Ruffle feathers ? lol.
****ing cucks. We should have gotten way more than we did, which would have completely changed the landscape of this and next offseason
By all reports the only reason nwm didn’t ask for a trade is his management didn’t think a trade could be done. We’re afraid that the only way we’re going to get Cochrane next year is trading someone out / best case scenario burning 2 maybe 3 years of draft picks.
It’s the kind of cluster**** that in another high stakes workplace where your dad / uncle isn’t the owner not only ends up with you losing a job, but being virtually unhireable after.
He was back in the 2023 draft. Overlooked by EVERY club ... Now two years later he is looking the star. Obviously all the recruiters had the same view that he wasnt good enough.Wait so did we overlook Latrelle Pickett for our NGA? Not sure how it works but there’s a Zero Hanger article saying ‘

IMO, I think so, and apart from the Saints, I don't believe any club is truly considering him. What happen Jovan - recruiters not convinced he can walk the walk?

Even if the picks 46 and 47 are the wrong way around our pick swap with gc sucks compared to the crows.
Are we the gift that keeps on giving for gc?
You're correct on all of this, but really the problem goes deeper. The problem with the trade isn’t who we got, it’s that after years of hearing , “you have to pay up for contracted players” , when we had a contracted and valued player we rolled over and showed our soft belly and said, have at it gents.

Not sure if this was a response to my post?Nah we are winning this draft so far.
Pickett I like as a third round pick.
That’s what this draft is.
Available players after five are really second and third round picks.
Im willing to bet we finish higher than Carlton next year so I'd try to give away our pick instead. I think Phillipou will slide past 30 and our F2 will do.We got one from Carlton also?
He was in our NGA as an 18 year old. However he wasn't even draft worthy last year and the year before. I believe that under old rules the NGA status cannot be carried forward to future years.Wait so did we overlook Latrelle Pickett for our NGA? No it was a random thought. I have absolutely no problem with your post at all.Not sure if this was a response to my post?
My point is even if we didn't want to get in to this draft, if we still had our first now, we could have traded it for capital next year for Dougie. I have no issue with us largely skipping a poor draft class if we don't need to go in to it, that can often be the correct decision. If he shows he is a chance of getting back to his best I'd much rather Stephenson than whoever is there at pick 67 for example.
after the 1st night of the draft we have picks 62, 67 & 69

Ah right my bad, it was just immediately after my post and started with "Nah" so I was a bit confused. No it was a random thought. I have absolutely no problem with your post at all.
Where'd you get 4 from? We've got 3 spots. Our pick 49 would've been pick 41 now. Bids to come on Ison, Fincher, King, Williams which could've moved it up potentially another spot.
Maybe I'm being pessimistic and petty over a 3rd round pick. But we might've just trade pick 40 this year for pick 54 next year and we won't even be able to use that pick to match Dougie's bid.
I'm starting to doubt what the point of that trade was. In contrast, Crows traded what would've been pick 39 for what could be pick 42 next year. I simply do not get why gave it away so cheaply.
We should have our round 9 pick allocated to us today as we have 4 senior spots open. So it'll be 62, 67, 69 and 70 soon I think. Expect 62 to ironically end up at 49 or 50ish. Peucker or Kickett
FWIW, I'd be trying to get creative to either land a F2 somehow or get back now into 2nd round and get Phillipou.
It's definitely stupid. GC's list in particular at the moment is starting to look ridiculously scary.I know we will personally benefit from acquiring Dougie next year through our Academy pathway, but it does nothing for the integrity of the competition. The population of the SE corner of QLD will only continue to boom which will immensely benefit both QLD clubs for decades to come. The whole current points system needs to be scrapped & completely overhauled.
I can’t see us going back into the second round tonight.Im willing to bet we finish higher than Carlton next year so I'd try to give away our pick instead. I think Phillipou will slide past 30 and our F2 will do.
I actually back the moves the afl are making to protect the integrity of the draft. But as usual, they are completely cocking it up.I know we will personally benefit from acquiring Dougie next year through our Academy pathway, but it does nothing for the integrity of the competition. It’s pretty clear we have given up on this draft and are hell bent on keeping as many picks possible for next year onwards.
Tonight is going to be about as exciting as Home & Away catch up.
I’m assuming that we’ll try to use the suite of 2nd and 3rd rounders to trade up for another pick in the 1st round next year (if bid matching is tightened). If bid matching is left alone, we’ll have those picks sitting there ready to match a bid on Dougie.Agreed. I don't understand largely or entirely trading yourself out of a draft for no real gain. I get top end talent can vary but is a kid picked in the 40s in this draft demonstrably less likely to succeed than a kid picked in the 40s next year?
I think recruiters can talk themselves into decisions based purely on a feeling and those thoughts can spread through a group like a hive mind.
I'm not going to die in a ditch over indicative picks from one year to the next, it's more the broader question of why give up your position in a draft at all for the sake of kicking a can down the road.
Hopefully pick 62 will come back into the 40s and we can get a new player onto our list.
