We're investing 3 years of drafts into 3 players basically (Cochrane, Pilot and Salopek).

It's a huge risk... Hope it doesn't leave a huge hole in our list.
More. We'll probably need to use 2028 and 2029 draft currency based on the current rules.

Could be investing 5 years draft picks into that batch.

Alarming thing for me is that clubs with much stronger lists than ours still took players. This included clubs that had traded in quality too.

History tells us that we can’t be the only club who got it right and the other 17 got it wrong.

Maybe we’re just self-traumatised by recent McCallum-Scully-Marshall and Anastasopoulos-Charleson-Lorenz draft experiences, and prefer to make judgement on players who we actually see train with us for a while.

Still, no-one can accuse us of strengthening our list in Carr’s first post-season.

Its not end of the world tbh, probably had some intel that the following would get through based on how it panned out (listed in order of my preference):

BOB
Greeves
Kickett
Rodriguez
Hibbins-Hargraves
Hetherton

Obviously the advantage now is you pay them less as a rookie rather than senior spot.

The interesting thing now is, I believe we must have 36 senior spots filled and currently we only have 35 (after 3 elevations). So one more Rookie A will be promoted out of Liddy, Mackinlay, Walsh and Evans. Unless I've gotten the rules wrong.

Or we draft Ah Chee in the PSD

I would say Port's list is stronger automatically considering the players Port drafted in the past few years were average and got delisted.

Still got some dead wood to remove from the list and those players are lucky they still have a contract.

If we liked any of the players that got through we would have picked them instead of passing.
If we liked someone left, why would we pick them today and have to put them on the main list if we can instead put them on the rookie list tomorrow and only have to commit to the single year?

As stated before we have given away good picks for missing pieces in Hinkley’s puzzle.
It didn’t work and now it’s time to pay up for it.
Our choices were always going to be limited in this trade/ draft period.
Basically now all we can do is look forward to the future with the draft hands we have going forward.
It’s extremely important we draft/trade well over the next couple of years.
We can’t let teams pull our pants down anymore.

As ive pointed out a few times before, given the position of our list, with so many players already contracted past next year and with a really tight and limited list of options for delisting, selecting more players thatd be on 1 year deals, does make some sense.

I'm personally happy to boost up our depth across the board rather than pumping the list with more pick 60s that just waste space as we have done the last few years.

Interested to see if we grab any kids tomorrow, but I still feel Watkins and Rome Burgoyne could be a chance.

If Rome Burgoyne's name was Billy Bubkins you wouldn't even mention him he's basically shown nothing.

Was outstanding this year in the SANFL. Was being picked as a priority over others in the SANFL when we were nearly fully stacked too. Could certainly have played AFL on a half back this year. Fundamentally in the same position as Ramm, both skipped over and played good SANFL footy.

What's our chances of taking one of these guys tomorrow? Given that we just elected to pass on all of them, given the chance.

Makes no sense to me
