This morning on SEN. The offer they think Saints are making for DeKoning is obscene. But they will probably do it. It will give Saints fans orgasms if he decides to accept. He will look like Big Carl.

The thing about Melbourne. Ummm. Where do you start. Why not with the latest;

  1. Pickett texting his mates at Freo saying he will be playing in Dockers colours next year
  2. The Petracca Incident
  3. The mishandling of Clayton Oliver's Mental Health problems
  4. Steven May's ongoing off-field incidents and his behaviour on-field at times
  5. Joel Smith's drug charges
  6. The Coach having to come out publicly about rumours he is an ICE addict or was an ICE addict.
  7. Players not wanting to go there because the culture of the club is toxic
They have had more controversy in 3 years than most clubs have in a decade. No wonder players, assistant coaches and support staff are deserting them.

1. Seeing what, if anything, changes under Dean Cox. It's the first time in over a decade I have literally no idea what to expect from the coaches box, even if Cox is hardly new to the club. If nothing else, that unknown element is exciting on its own.

2. Sounds silly, but just watching guys like Heeney and Rowbottom and Gulden playing footy again while we have them. Fans have, understandably, put the playing group in the naughty corner over the off-season, but when these guys are being inducted into the club's hall of fame 15 years from now, we'll be wishing we could enjoy their careers all over again.

3. Hopefully me getting to a few more games in Sydney! I fell in love with the city & the SCG on my brief but memorable trip a few years back.
Do you know;

Sydney Harbour is the deepest natural harbour in the world. It holds over 500 million tonnes of water

The World Heritage wanted to list Sydney Harbour, like they did the Great Barrier Reef but our government objected

Sydney Harbour is listed as one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world and even with development it is still a Icon

I see Mark Robinson has retired as Chief footy writer at the HSun (only turned 57 on Christmas Day).

Over the years I've been happy to pile on 'Slobbo' but he'll certainly come out on the right side of history with regards to Adam Goodes.

A couple of quotes from Robbo;
regarding the booing of Goodes;

The answer — it is said — is because he plays for free kicks, that he used to slide into contests, that he dives and that he is a whinger.

And if you believe those to be the reasons, you’re an imbecile.

There are those who boo because they believe Goodes is a flog and there those who boo because others are booing. And there are also those who boo because they are racists.
What is going to happen is Goodes will be booed into retirement because he made a stand against racism.

The AFL can’t do anything but plead for common sense and decency, which is what AFL boss Gillon McLachlan did yesterday.
People can either listen to McLachlan or ignore him.

If you want to listen to him, then stop the booing. It’s as simple as that.

And if you choose to ignore him, then congratulations — you are now part of one of the most shameful episodes in the history of the AFL.

regarding the 'war dance';
Mcguire called it pseudo-political, Lyon and Barrett called it over the top, Robbo on the other hand defended it and called it '' five seconds of passion'

Sure Polo boy and the AFL finally got onboard, but it was Robbo who from the start was a constant critic of the booing of Adam and asking for Goodes to be given a 'fair go'.

It should also be remembered he was writing for News Corp hardly a beacon when it come to race relations.

The AFL in general came out of the Goodes saga poorly, one of the few few that came out with credit was Mark Robinson.
Well done Robbo. :thumbsu:
I agree with you totally. This was a despicable act perpetrated by people like McGuire in his media appearances and his columns. Eddy the arseh*le, called Goodes a whinger, a n Ape and more and got nothing except a slap on the wrist. He is a Racist mongrel. I am disappointed in Garry Lyon. He should have been better. Dermie was furious at the treatment of Goddsie. He called it out early. So did Dwayne Russell. But Lyon, who is great friends with Eddie and Gillon the Not So Great, came out in favour of the booers. I could see Gerrard Heally getting visable upset with his panel on this on episodes of On The Couch. He knew how Goodes was fairing and was very supportive.

I've been enjoying the Mongrel Punt previews. You need to be a member to get the most from them but as usual they are well written and thoughtful. He's going in reverse ladder order so it'll be a while before we get to us but the other teams are a good read.
King sees us 9th-14th. Says our list is shite. How would he know? He doesn't come up to Sydney very often to watch the players train. When he did come up last year he didn't even watch us, he only watched GWS and rave that they would win the Premiership. Why does he rate their list? They have lost 4 senior players who have to be replaced with young players. They traded in Stringer but that leaves three young players.
Their list is ageing, Conniglio 31, Greene 31, Whitfield 30, Ward 34, Stringer 30, Kelly 29, Hogan 29 (both Jesse and Josh are 30 on Feb 12), Keefe 34, Hymelberg 28. They would want to get a wriggle on if they want to win a premiership

There's an article reporting there are undisclosed issues with JUH at the Bulldogs: https://sen.com.au/news/2025/01/20/uncertainty-over-immediate-playing-future-of-ugle-hagan

Logan is tracking very comparably to JUH (who was the #1 pick the same year) and both have improved year on year. JUH scores slightly more goals (1.5 v 1.3 per game). Despite this, in 2024 Logan racked up slightly more rating points (265.8 v 263.6), which puts him in the top 20 KPFs in the comp for 2024 (although rating points are a very imperfect yardstick they are better than some others, including goals alone).

I think some criticise Logan unfairly. He isn't the messiah but he's a good (above average) player. And he still has plenty of room for improvement. He's probably still 5 years off his peak and will likely still be a better player in 10 more years than he was last season. So hopefully we have many more years of quality McDonald service coming our way.
Logan gets more of the ball up the field and also does stuff, clever stuff, that causes goals. U-H doesn't do as much of that stuff. He basically kicks goals. I don't think there would be many goal assists.

I just finished reading The Boys Club.. and now over the last few days watching league headquarters deal with the situation the Carlton president found himself in. It’s all straight from the afl playbook. We just have to wait to see where he pops up in a few years time in the football sphere.
It's interesting. The AFL keeps saying they are equal opportunity but give very little resources to Public School Footy. Nearly all their Development money goes to Rich Private Schools. It is the Private Schoolboy's Network. Why are we not getting at least 70% of our players from Public Schools? They educate 82% of the kids. The reason is simple, the public schools get little or no money from the AFL, can't afford to pay ex-AFL players to coach them as they don't have funding. It is a big scam. The best, top 10% at every Public School will be offered a scholarship at a Private School, where they will more than likely be bullied by the Rick Bullyboys.
