Autopsy 2025 AFL Round 3: Saints thrash Tigers

From a limited sample size I think Mac Crea is the missing link, loves his role and is the'Big Dog' to quote Paddy Cripps in the middle, something we haven't had since maybe Lenny.

I've always been a massive Macrae fan, I don't need convincing.

Yes I thought the exact same thing when we played Port.

The Owen's injury was just one such incident.

So it is good for us as we are playing sport this week.

Hopefully the 3 week suspension does not get overturned.
The video footage from behind is pretty damming tbh. Can’t see them changing that decision.
LOC’s busted head will also contribute to a lack of sympathy.

Those would be Hugo's first coaches votes, correct? Bit rough to get some and miss the rising star nom but he will get one soon enough.
Yeah I reckon he’s a bit stiff. They normally factor in body of work a little bit. Not in this instance.
I do think they use the RS as marketing tool to grow the profile of the high profile draft picks. Hopefully Hugo gets another full game and he should be rewarded.

Pushing someone out of a contest is a fundamental aspect of the sport. Full forwards do it 10x a game. Sometimes that push is going to have negative outcomes.

It’s a contact sport. And Mansells supposed push didn’t alter o’Connells trajectory at all. 3 weeks for that is crazy.
But LOC wasn't pushed out of a contest, he was pushed into one, which is not how this game has always been played.

I don't know how anyone can see the behind vision and say Mansell didnt propel O'Connell directly into the path of Lynch/Caminiti (which is what Gerard Healy was claiming on SEN early). Even just a small increase in momentum from the push changes the speed in which he is travelling and makes it harder for him to pull up.

I haven't seen the behind footage (will seek it out after this post) but it looked from the game vision like O'Connel had eyes for the fall of the ball, Mansell let him go and his existing pushing force allowed hiim to fall exactly where the ball would have landed.

Edit: have seen the footage and it definitely looks forceful. I still think Liam ended up where he would have intended to be in that contest, he was trying to get there but was being held back before he was released and pushed. With the alternate footage in mind, Mansell contributed more than enough to be pinged for it.

I completely disagree. The push was performative, and didn't add anything to his trajectory.

What a strange hill to die on.

The push prevented LOC from being able to jump at the ball & twist towards the ball. He would still have made contact with the Sniping MFer but it may not have been with his head.

The push literally caused his trajectory to change.

Stop using cars as your analogy, it's silly lol. Watch the tape again. The push doesn't alter his trajectory at all, it doesn't put him off balance. O'Connell is going for the mark and would be in the perfect position to mark the ball had Lynch not been coming in the other direction. The push had nothing to do with it.

Richmond need to fight the MRO on this, for the good of the game.

It's the last I'll say on it.
You're crazy if you don't think Mansell affected this contest with the push. You can clearly see O'Connell stumble to his left and lose balance after he's pushed. His momentum increases towards the oncoming Lynch. I get you don't want 'pushes' outlawed for AFL, lord knows we've changed the game enough as it is but shoving a guy into oncoming traffic seems to be an increasing trend this year and it's reasonable the AFL has seen enough injuries from that to want to stamp it out asap!

Exactly what I was gonna say.
He lost the ability to jump and turn by being pushed.

The thing about Macrae is that he’s not flashy. No big marks, goals or burst of speed he’s just so smart and slick in close. Makes great split second decisions and I think that’s one of the things our midfield over the last 6 to 8 years has really lacked.

Yep, he was always the foundation mid for the flashier guys to do their work.

Yep, stiff. Interesting coaches’ votes

One coach gave Nas 4 and the other 0
The other gave McCreamy 4 and the other 0
One gave Hugo 3 and the other 0
The other gave Marshall 3 and the other 0

And between Wood Chito and Nank, two of them received 2 and a 0, and the other a 1 and a 1.

So 2 guys the same? Anyone hazard a guess?

RtB
5 Sinc
4 McClash
3 Hugo
2 Wood
1 Nank

Ooozay
5 Sinc
4 Nas
3 Roma
2 Chito
1 Nank

Always thought Crouch was underachieving at the ground, until I got home and saw his work on the replay.

Don't feel feel that with Macrae. I see him constantly getting the ball and delivering. He is lankier and bigger than Crouch and a left footer and his kicking is more penetrating.
Can't wait to see him, Pou, and Travalgia ( once he bulks up) streaming out of the guts. Not an Essendon manlet to be seen.

Cornes is a professional contrarian.

He often says things that other media are too scared to say as they don't want to harm their access/relationships.

I like a lot of what he says but his opinions on the Saints are a bit shallow. As we haven't been relevant for a long time. I can see where he is coming from. But we all know that there is a good chance he is wrong.
-------‐-------------------------------------------------------
I finished watching the replay this morning. A couple of things I noticed.

- Caminiti is going to get bags kicked on him while he is learning but boy is he impressive. His closing speed is elite. Pair that with strength and there is heaps of potential to be an elite defender. It was also noticeable that the few times he was beaten by Lynch, or gave away a free kick, he chastised himself. His personality is driven which is another asset in his journey.

- Travaglia was super impressive on debut. The way he hunted the ball, but also his ability to extract it in packs and dish it. Looks like the Saints recruiters knew what they were doing when they selected him as a midfielder. Imagine him with a bit more size. We have another potential weapon. Versatile as well.
Cornes is smart enough that he will only target small clubs consistently and the bigger ones only when there is something to criticise.

He has based himself of American media types like Stephan A Smith and it’s all shock factor. He will look for negativity in every situation but none more so than the St Kilda FC.

Pretty happy with coaches votes so far this year tbh:

17: Sinclair
12: Macrae
9: Marshall
8: Wanganeen-Milera
5: Owens
3: Garcia
2: Windhager, Wood
1: Wilson

Great to see Macrae performing (tick for the recruitment) but even better to see Nas, Mitch, Hugo, Windy, Wilson all grabbing votes already. The lads really coming through.

He won’t get off. They’re going to make an example of him. He’s not a “name”.

Sure he is, who the F decides to add a H to Ryan and run with it?

Fk me ... it doesn't matter that LOC was probably gunna get clobbered even if he wasn't pushed ... the fact is ..... he was pushed into oncoming players .... the AFL have madr it abundantly clear .... no more thanks .... if you push someone into on coming players and the pushed player gets injured/concussed .... 3 week holiday .... full stop ..... get used to it

Yes roles will vary depending on opponents and fow of the game.

If we can get all of Wiklie, Dougal and Caminiti in the one backline that sets us up very well.

Caminiti is a very good mark. Dougal is a very good spoiler and so hence more suited to being the FB. Caminiti to basically take Battle's former spot even if he will not play it the same way.

Cainiti also has a bit of mongrel in him.

Webster Howard Caminiti
Sincs Wilkie Nas

is a very well balanced defense. Good offensively and defensively.
I'm really hoping we stick with Caminiti in defence when Doogs comes back. Think he has done very well playing kpd. It's his 2nd game there at afl level and will only get better. Think Wilkie will also be more effective being allowed to play 3rd tall and actually think this setup will be better than when we had Battle as we'll have 2 true kpd size players and Wilkie will be taking intercept marks all day long
