Rd 8 thread..

Once I (re) dump Centra, my bench is looking bare.
Young, Tarlinton, Rigoni only a few $ on them.

I might be able to get Boyd to T.LR with Centra cash. After that, it'll be a struggle for $.

Round kicks off with a Thursday game,

Thurs 2/10
Hawthorn vs Fremantle
(Bowers VC loop, Freo spending the entire week in Melbourne after their round 7 clash)

Fri 3/10
Melbourne vs Essendon

Sat 4/10
GWS vs StKilda
North vs Sydney
Gold Coast vs Brisbane
Port vs Western Bulldogs

Sun 5/10
Richmond vs Adelaide
Geelong vs Carlton
WCE vs Collingwood

Thanks to Bacon and Ebert getting matching 25s on their way out, I've got a max of $787K to spend on my D5 upgrade. If I trade Woodland for Window instead of a bench downgrade, I can get up to $841K.

I'm not seeing a lot of great options in either scenario. Heath losing mid time to Chaplin makes that a non-option. Thomas is possible if I trade Woodland, but hasn't been great (junked up to get to 58 today).

No idea what I'm doing. Dunlop to Hose seems likely for a loophole, but that's about all I can figure out now.

My team is in shambles I don't even know how to fix it.

You all seem to be doing better than I am so just gonna ask for advice lol. Any help would be much appreciated. Only have $28k left.

Zanker to Window; Banfield down to somebody you can loop into Young using Kos; get Boyd up to somebody more reliable before she loses that 80.

It leaves F5 as your one big hole. Bringing in somebody from the first two games gives you a free hit at getting a passable score before defaulting to Young. Hopefully Young can find some form at home against the Dogs either way.

I just rewatched the Saints v Port 4th quarter and a couple of thoughts that might be relevant:

Richards - I'm not a doctor and I don't know what was wrong with her, but it didn't look that bad. Jason Bennett didn't seem to think there was contact, but I think Paterson's heel may have come down on Richards' ankle. If I had to guess, I'd say she plays. EDIT: After re-re-watching it, I think I've actually got the source of the problem - and I'm less confident. Richards' foot got caught under her as she fell to ground. The question is going to be the extent of the damage.

Window and Woodland - Both got CBAs in the last as Arnell tried desperately to find a mix that worked. Woodland got the first two, but I think Window ended up with more in the term. They also used Dowrick, Goody and Paterson in there. Possibly others. It's anybody's guess how they line up next week.

Watson - Played most of the quarter as a centre square mid. Spent a little bit of time forward as well when we were chasing the lead. My guess is that she'll back in defence next week, but Dal has shown a willingness to move her around over the last couple of weeks, particularly when we're chasing.

To give an idea of how little an idea I have of what to do this week, I've started looking into Blackburn.

I'll be back when injuries and BE's are up, because I'll just go around in circles a million times over on how to fix my dumpster fire.

Girvan is very interesting to me at this point however, especially with the QClash this weekend. Could potentially just get Kearney the hell away from my team and try and make up the lost cash with her.

Barnett had a massive drop in ruck contests, its either purely based on the matchup and not being tall enough for Edmonds or a role shift is coming, its either her or Woodland going out to Richards if shes right to play.

Picking who is going to be a challenge as Woodland loses CBA's after HT aswell...

I considered Blackburn as well. BE of 42.

Blackburn played an important role in the result, booting a career-high four goals after an evenly split forward-midfield role.

“She’s been great all year to be honest. The role of high half-forward – we’ve got to remember that she was out of the game for 12 months with that foot injury, so it was always going to be (a case of) finding her legs,” Hyett said.

“In the last couple of weeks, we’ve found more opportunities to give her more midfield time. She’s a star and a class act.”

Only question is whether she'll pop out another 60.

Woodland's role was fine, she just didn't play very well after half time. 6/10 CBAs in the second half. The big worry, for me, is Window should be getting more mid time. I don't know if that comes at the expense of Woodland or someone else, though. Goody could easily slide out to the wing.

Barnett and Woodland both have high BEs - Woodland's slightly higher. I think you could justify a trade or a hold on either, especially since your cash gen is so good.

One last one on Richards - I'm a little more worried about Richards after watching the injury again. I had been focusing too much on the marking contest, but I think the injury was actually Richards getting her left foot caught underneath her as she fell. She didn't look as bad as McDonald last week or Garner earlier in the year, so I'm hopeful, but less optimistic than I was yesterday.

Yeah its a rough one, Woodlands run coming up is harder aswell while possible losing more CBA's so i think im heading that way.

Will need to wait and see on Richards, if shes out then it becomes way harder to choose from for trade ins.

Had a 271 round rank and a jump up from 3100 to 2200ish :) Nothing compared to most of youse but nice to have a good week finally. Mostly thanks to the Bowers VC and owning Gardiner I think.

Thinking Window in as still don't have a proper M5, Gutnecht for Heath to at least make some cash, and downgrade D6 to Steele Park.

Yeah was looking to do Boyd up but that leaves me with $837K - was going to do Cordner but she was too good last week. Are any of the defs under that price decent?

I'm in a similar spot - just shy of players like Cordner and McCormick. The main DEFs I'm looking at if I don't go Thomas (who you already have) are Gutknecht, O'Driscoll and Richardson. Obviously, no proven premos amongst those, but they all have fairly low BEs (particularly Richardson).

There's also Shelley Heath, who didn't have a great week, but ended up with more CBAs than I thought (Chaplin started in the middle, but clearly didn't stay there). There's some safety in numbers there, although I expect a few to be trading her out this week with a BE of 70.

My trades for the moment:
Our team still overlaps I see...i've gone Woodland to Window too. And also dropped Dunlop albeit for Fleur Davies but really was looking for any $300k ruck.

Last trade is Paxman out for someone, I have $967k left which is frustratingly just short of the real premiums like TLR, Watson so I'm tossing up similarly between Drisco, Thomas, maybe even McCormick if I want to spend the additional cash? Both her and Cordner are a significant step above the other two, with about 10+ averages - L3 averages are 80 (Cordner), 70 (McCormick), 67 (Thomas/Drisco), 63 (Richardson).

I guess I'm also looking at saving cash for next week as my bench is lookin pretty ugly - I still have Tessa Boyd on field. Maybe I should prioritise Boyd over Woodland...

Edit 2 - actually going Dunlop to $300k only saves me a few more $ than going Woodland to Window ($164k vs $151k). So maybe I'll ditch the Dunlop trade and just make 3 on field moves...Woodland to Window and then both Paxy and Boyd out - unfortunately can't squeeze 2 of either Thomas / Drisco / Jenna etc. in. Now I'm looking at someone like Jordy Allen as a potential in...my head hurts.

I'm in a similar bind, as are most, really leaning towards Girvan as a more temporary play.

BE of 37, going into a QClash, solid TOG, big spike game against a solid team and should be seeing plenty of the ball down back, Hawks the week after, 3% own.

Could get Thomas in and call it done, could roll the dice to try and get up to a real premo (although outside TLR, not sure there are any in DEF).

Dunlop, with a BE of 31, may still have some money to make. I really need a donut, though, and I'd rather it be a ruck than a defender (if possible). If Reidy finally gets dropped, I may reconsider things. Richards out rather than Woodland means I have more money to play with, but I'm still not excited about any of the trade in options. I thought about Allen, too, but that one feels like a short term play at best and her floor is extremely low (based on past seasons).

My worry is that, as the Eagles have got better, Thomas isn't as much of a lone hand. Cleaver had 10 intercepts on the weekend while Thomas only had 5. The ball is also spending less time in the Eagles defensive 50. The fact that Girvan had so many scores in the 40s earlier in the year is the worry there. I guess there's going to be an argument against any player cheaper than TLR and Watson, so it's going to be tough. No idea which way I end up going.
