She will probably attract an early bid. Along with a number of their other Academy prospects. Gold Coast have subsequently loaded up on a plethora of late first and early second selections (19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 27, 32) to cover this.

Our first pick is 16. So even if she did slide that far, they are easily able to match

They'd be easily able to match regardless wouldn't they? Don't they only have to use a pick in the same round as the bid? Or has that rule been changed?

I guess the addition of Bella means they have the option to leave Bre in the forward line permanently. It would be great if Bre was a more reliable kick.

Not strictly a round, just has to be matched by a pick within the next 18 (or “round” of) selections. So by holding 19-23, GC can effectively match up to 5 bids from pick 2 onwards (as they have multiple first-round Academy girls this year, including Sunny).

Always been like that since live bidding was introduced to AFLW. It’s how we were able to match a late first-round bid on Sophie with our second-round pick last year, and still use our first round pick on Poppy.

Ordinary list management … however I am of the view that midfields are where games are won and lost and we had some gaps there which are now covered.

Ahhh ... that's right! Thanks. I was thinking that a bid for pick 1 could be matched with pick 18, that's where I got the "same round" from.

But yeah, the academy advantage the Suns have this year is incredible. Wish Sunny had picked us ... but maybe - as well as the familiarity aspect - she can see what's coming for the Suns over the next few years.
