Gather Round tickets snapped up in record time

The AFL is pleased to announce that more than 195,000 Gather Round…Festival of Footy tickets have sold… with five of the nine games sold out, 20,000 more than this time last year.

Member on sale on Tuesday saw a significant uplift in demand for tickets this year, selling more than 100,000 tickets in the first four hours, in comparison to the same amount in 24 hours last year.

This year there are an extra 47,000 tickets on offer for fans with the two Saturday matches being ticketed separately.

Tickets still remain for Collingwood vs Sydney Swans on Friday night, Carlton vs West Coast on Saturday afternoon, Melbourne vs Essendon on Saturday night and a very limited number of restricted view tickets and tickets for the Pepsi Collective for Port Adelaide vs Hawthorn on Sunday evening.

AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said it was clear Gather Round momentum was not slowly down.

“The demand for tickets this year was significantly higher than the first two Gather Rounds, with more than 195,000 tickets being purchased in the first two days,” said Mr Dillon.

“A ticket to the matches at the Barossa Park was always going to be one of the hottest tickets in town and the fans have certainly illustrated that by selling out both matches so quickly.”

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said: “Gather Round continues to exceed all expectations.

“We are honoured that so many footy fans from around the country are making the commitment to travel to our beautiful state to experience this event like no other.

“They’ll be truly welcome.

“If you haven’t got a ticket already – get in quick!”

Tickets for the remaining matches can be found here.

Pretty solid attendance nonetheless

No it was about bang on with our prediction. A lot people sitting in the sun all moved into the shaded area in the top deck areas that were not full, it was pretty hot in Perth yesterday.

Alternating the event with the Eagles every 2nd year would work well in Perth. So the Dockers/Eagles play every 4 years.

There were 19k Dogs in queue for the Dogs hosting the Pies for the 100th yesterday. Unfortunately a lot had barcode trouble like they did for the hawks final lol

Likely be the biggest dogs home crowd

Good early signs with the AFL Members ticket sales for Rounds 1-6 yesterday.

Collingwood / Carlton sold out incl standing room
Collingwood / Port & WB games into the middle and back of the top level
Richmond / Carlton into the back of the top level
Hawthorn / Carlton & Essendon both solid but trailing behind the Coll games

The Bulldogs/Pies game should easily become the biggest Bulldogs home game ever (needs 59k). Their biggest ever H&A crowd is 68K and could be within reach if public/club members are proportionate to the AFL Members.

The Pies/Port game a good chance of being Port's biggest crowd. (65k)

Looks like a very healthy crowd in Canberra, especially for a pre-season game starting at 5:20 on a Friday.

Very bad weather forecast for Brisbane and Gold Coast for opening round.
Ticket sales have slowed in the Suns game the last 24 hours. Suspect some are waiting for clarity.

I’d say there would be doubt on whether the Thursday game proceeds as we speak. Lots to play out however there’s currently real risk of SEQ landfall late Thursday which brings risk of not playing into play. Airport closures impacting Saturday fixture etc.

Both Brisbane and Geelong have their early bye in Round 3. In the worst case scenario they can shift their game to that round without stuffing anything else up.

Well it's a shame about the cyclone, both Qld crowds were on track to be very good. Hopefully everyone stays safe and the games are rescheduled to a suitable time when they're both able to still get the good crowds they were set for.

The attention now focuses on Sydney. Still a handful of tickets left for the Swans games on Friday, but mostly just restricted view seats. Should sell-out by Friday and be 40k+.

The GWS game isn't looking as strong as this time last year. Last year's opening round vs Collingwood was a sellout but I don't think will get there this time, unless there is some big promotion between now and Sunday. I haven't been following the ticket sales for this one much so it's hard to estimate, but at this stage if I had to guess it's looking maybe 16k? Probably a fair bit under what they'd be hoping for, but for context if this game reached 16,000 this would be GWS' 13th highest crowd at Engie (behind 8x Syd derbies, 3x finals and Opening Rd last year). So not a bad result, and hopefully it picks up a bit more over the next 4-5 days.

Andrew Dillion mentioned today he thought Engie would get over 20k.
