Gather Round tickets snapped up in record time

The AFL is pleased to announce that more than 195,000 Gather Round…Festival of Footy tickets have sold… with five of the nine games sold out, 20,000 more than this time last year.

Member on sale on Tuesday saw a significant uplift in demand for tickets this year, selling more than 100,000 tickets in the first four hours, in comparison to the same amount in 24 hours last year.

This year there are an extra 47,000 tickets on offer for fans with the two Saturday matches being ticketed separately.

Tickets still remain for Collingwood vs Sydney Swans on Friday night, Carlton vs West Coast on Saturday afternoon, Melbourne vs Essendon on Saturday night and a very limited number of restricted view tickets and tickets for the Pepsi Collective for Port Adelaide vs Hawthorn on Sunday evening.

AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said it was clear Gather Round momentum was not slowly down.

“The demand for tickets this year was significantly higher than the first two Gather Rounds, with more than 195,000 tickets being purchased in the first two days,” said Mr Dillon.

“A ticket to the matches at the Barossa Park was always going to be one of the hottest tickets in town and the fans have certainly illustrated that by selling out both matches so quickly.”

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said: “Gather Round continues to exceed all expectations.

“We are honoured that so many footy fans from around the country are making the commitment to travel to our beautiful state to experience this event like no other.

“They’ll be truly welcome.

“If you haven’t got a ticket already – get in quick!”

Tickets for the remaining matches can be found here.

Glad I got my tix to pies vs lions, 4 tickets, first mcg finals game.

Four that's wild. Nice.

Did you get them with your gold Lions or Collingwood membership ?

Or were you fighting with 50,000 others for hours for the final released GA tickets that sold in 30 minutes?

I agree.

Sydney has the biggest population in the country (5.5 mil?). And NRL is the biggest sport there and getting a crowd of 40,000 to a final is considered amazing.

It’s just a different culture. Aussie Rules is a bit like European football where you get thousands of fans travelling interstate for away finals. The NRL doesn’t have that, but how many global sports do have that?

But don’t mistake that for lack of support — some of those Sydney based NRL clubs have massive fan bases especially the Eels, Dogs, Rabbits and Dragons.

They haven’t had any last minute release of unsold corporate tickets for either prelim which would usually happen by now.
Yes they have, they just didn't announce it as a proper on sale but they were available yesterday afternoon. They just release them and those who keep checking buy them.

For Geelong Hawthorn the rows were in these bays: N34, N50, P12, M50, M52, M3, Q29 Front, Q32 front (currently available), Q55 Front and N25 in the AFL Reserve also went on sale. It was about 50 tickets all up I reckon.

For Collingwood Brisbane, M53, N34 are currently on sale but there was more yesterday I just didn't take the bays down.

What were ticket prices like to the VFL back in 1968-71?

We all know there were massive crowds back then especially in comparison to the population to now, but could one consideration be ticket prices are a lot more compared to income now, and a lot more neutrals would go to finals back then?

Ignoring the obvious stadium capacity limit.

300 less than Hawthorn's record in 1971 👍

1968-71 was a brief period after the Ponsford Stand was built but before safety standards were invented.

Don't say it much but I was super proud of the Hawks fans tonight. Rocked up and wore the gold proudly. It’s easily the most energised I’ve seen Hawks fans in my time supporting the brown and gold…

Geelong are clearly a 5 to 6 goal better side than us right now but if you told me when I was standing on the outer at Carrara early last year that we’d get 5 finals into this squad I’d take that 99 times out of 100 (maybe something in that for Essendon and Carlton fans?). Hopefully our supporters can bring the noise next year and can go again.

It wasn’t quite the sea of brown and gold that was expected. Definitely a hawks majority but that was the biggest cats turnout in finals at the G against any of Richmond/melbourne/collingwood/hawthorn finals since 2017.
