I like Worner & think he’s very brave. The real test for him will be in games that are played under high pressure, but he’s improving from game to game which is all you can ask for someone really at the beginning of their AFL career.

Best 22 after round 5.

Ryan Pearce Walker
Chappy Cox Clark
Noddy Young Sharp
Freddy Treacy Bolton
Reid Amiss Jackson

Darcy Serong Brayshaw

Draper Johnson Dudley JOM

Sub Banfield.

  • Talent on every line.
  • Hoping Amiss can find some form.
  • Fyfe will need to get ahead of Johnson or JOM to crack this team. (Might not be a given) and Walters will need to get ahead of Switta, Dudley and Reid. (also not a given)

Depth: Switta, Voss, Wagner, Worner, Fyfe, Walters.
Pretty close to mine. But Id play Dudley as the sub. I think he's still building fitness but obviously very exciting plus I like a genuine forward (I think Banfields more a utility who plays forward) as a sub due to how if we get an injury to a mid or a forward he can come on and play forward with Bolton, Young plays more mid or Murphy Reid plays a bit on ball. If we get an injury to a defender two of Young, O'Meara or Sharp can rotate back for coverage.for the rest of the game.

Ive also lost a bit of faith in Walker. Since he's been gone I think Chappy's been playing the lockdown on small forward role and doing it well.
My best 22+ sub

Ryan Pearce Wagner
Chappy Cox Clark
Noddy Young Sharp
Freddy Treacy Bolton
Reid Amiss Jackson

Darcy Serong Brayshaw

Draper Johnson, JOM, Switta

I like what worner does defensively it’s when he gets the ball I don’t like him. He slows everything down and he’s too scared to pull the trigger on a kick on the 45. Slowed down way to many quick plays yesterday and we are lucky it’s just Richmond

You missed the 45 to Brayshaw that went on to Treacy in the first? Admittedly, it was probably more 30 degrees than 45...

In all seriousness the main reason why I thought it was his best game was because he took on the difficult kick and broke the play open for the first time in his afl career in my opinion. He only had 18 disposals which wouldnt seem to be a break out game but it was how creative he was that made it a good game for him.

Maybe that potential combined with his toughness is what's got the coaches keen on him.

Wagner Draper JOM Reid.

Sub Fyfe.

The team on the weekend was missing 5 best 22 players IMO (Walker, Wagner, Chappy, Noddy and Jackson). Plus, 2 guys (Young and Darcy) were seriously underdone. Blame the coach all you want but this team will improve if we have full fitness. Bringing Wagner, Chappy and Jackson in this week will help. And Darcy and Young will be better for the run.

I actually don't think any of Switta, Johnson, Walters, Worner, Erasmus or Banners are Best 22.

Is Sturt still in our Best 23 if he's fit now?

He would come in this week if he was showing any form in the WAFL, just so we could drop one of the out form forwards.

You could probably ask the same question of Switta, or Frederick (are they still best 23).

If Sturt or Walters were fit, I would drop Switta and bring one of them in.

Ryan Pearce Chapman
Clark Cox Simpson
Sharp Young Noddy
Bolton Treacy Reid
Dudley Amiss Freddy

Jackson Serong Brayshaw

Wagner Johnson Erasmus Voss

Sub Banfield

Notes: Controversial but not sure Darcy or Walker are in the best 22 anymore. Neither should JOM be played over Johnson or Erasmus.

I would consider moving Sharp out, bringing Wagner into that role as a defensive mid, and playing Walker as the 7th defender. His ability to lock down on smalls has been missed, and Wagner has impressed me in that role.

Next year I would have Whan on that role ahead of Sharp (providing he can do 13-14 k's a game)

I’d agree with Wagner taking Sharps role with Walker down back. Not sure Whan is going to be ready in Year one, but Bruce shows it can be done.

Whan might not be ready to be best 22 but I'd be disappointed if he wasn't ready to provide some contribution in year one tbh - i.e. I think he'll be in our best 30-odd and play 6-10 games if injuries don't get in the way.

Reality is that talls aside most decent footballers provide a contribution year one or two. It's reasonably important depth wise for these draftees to continue to push our best 30-odd like Reid and Dudley have this season despite some on here seemingly to think we need ten guys outside the best 22 games with 50-100 games experience to have good depth.

They reckon Whan has the best endurance of the WA crew, so we shall see.

I’ve forgotten him.

Yes best 23 but never gets over being injured. Not the first or last player to get lose a career because of injuries.
The knee seems to be failing Sturt so regularly now, he could barely jog in the preseason. I guess there is only a certain amount of times you can keep going back to surgery, I have real concerns for his future.

3 and half mids on the bench (counting Wagner as a defensive mid). Ideally you would like one defender, one forward in there.

I think Banfield comes out for Switta.

Sharp or Fyfe would come out if Walker or Simpson was fit.
