Everyone seems to have Shiel as a lock down back. Are we satisfied with his defensive work?

It was better than I thought it would be against the Dogs. His one on one stuff was not an issue and he was really good at organizing the back half. Despite the fact there have been times when he has played selfish footy when he has been switched on his defensive positioning and effort has been good in the past. So far he has been good.

Every club seems to have decent user of the ball at half back. Shiel seems to fit that bill well.

I love the guy, but Heppell was perhaps the slowest player in the league that wasn't a ruck. He could kick 40 metres and was a liability when the ball was on the ground.

Shiel has flaws, but he has great acceleration and can break lines - he is an upgrade on Heppell.

If Baldwin had so much talent, why is there over 750 players on AFL lists and he isn’t one of them?

Putrid take. Reid is light years ahead of Baldwin and Dynosaur Heppell moved like a glacier in comparison to Shiel. Shiel has him for ball use and decision making too.

Reid's upside is huge, no question. But when I think of their comparative AFL performances, I'd say Balders has shown more. He's very unlucky to miss the SSP spot. Maybe the MSD might be the go. Still think Goldy should be delisted though.

It is outrageous. But I think we need a taller target up forward to take the heat off Langford and Caddy. Get 2mp rucking and involved in the game more as well when Bryan needs a break.

Hobbs not an impact player for me. Gresham was a passenger in the first half but got going in the second half, I don't think that earns him a starting spot.

Hobbs was a panic merchant last night away from the contest, a vital area for him to improve upon. Look beyond the stats. They also play completely different spots, one is playing as a forward, the other a mid. I think Edwards will impact more forward of centre than Hobbs will.

problem i think with playing hobbs presently is that he should be running through the midfield, but he's been overtaken by a plethora of players who're all doing that role much better than he has.

This is how I see it too. Parish at his best will replace someone but hopefully those chosen play so well he will need to average 40 disposals in the VFL. Wright, Setters, Goldy, Guelfi and Lav are great to have as experienced depth.

Then we can continue to develop Al Hawli, Davey, Hayes, Edwards, and Cox (if he ever recovers) etc in the Magoos.

Looks about right for how we should attack the early part of the season.

Bit harsh on Hobbsy. He definitely made a few errors, but I feel like we need to live with them, to some degree. Also, it'd be a bit hypocritical to not play Hobbs because he looks like a 'panic merchant' when we have McGrath as our VC...
