What is your intended purpose in creating these formulas and rankings?
I wanted to create a system that took away my personal sometimes pre-ordained sentiments towards players and identify the best players in areas I and other people wouldn't ordinarily notice upon visual inspection.

Sure, some players look brilliant when they play and they impress us, but footy isn't always glamourous.

Disposal counts aren't an effective measure of a good game, neither are defensive uncontested kicks.

I've also had this season to understand the numbers and make some changes to defender in the hope that next season all positions are benchmarked appropriately. In other words, a stand out defensive game will trump an above average midfield game.

In terms of the Brownlow it's too unpredictable to measure. Hopefully next season those solid defensive games will be better rewarded.

Ah I see, nice to have a standardized set of rankings for an objective best player!

Yeah purely from a Brownlow perspective the stats will always be difficult to align with votes. And something like clangers and turnovers is a prime example why, the guys at the top of Brownlow are usually really high turnover and clanger guys. Some guys could actually have 50% of their disposals being a turnover and still get votes. Umps just think damn that guy is having a crack.

Sometimes it's like trying and failing is better than not trying at all. Matt Rowell vs Port Adelaide r24 is one he had no right polling in, Butters caught him cold like 10 times. I can only imagine the reasoning behind the 1 vote was wow Rowell tried hard :tearsofjoy:

The update on that game savaged Rowell. I think it was guess work or couldn't give a **** vote tbh.
Nothing about his game was memorable. 10 clangers from 21 disposals, only 15 were effective. Only 5 clearances.

“The umpires are only human”

Daicos and Smith are the two most unlikeable players in the comp. Can see why they don’t get as many votes as they should.
