2025 Brownlow Medal

Nick Daicos is an extremely good player elite in fact but I still think the media hype around his ability is over the top, he still makes errors with ball in hand, misses tackles and has the occasional howler clanger, the way the media go on you would think he was perfect.

Could still do it and he has time on his side but he has a long way to go to be in the same tier as the likes of Chris Judd, Gary Ablett Jnr, Michael Voss, Simon Black, Scott Pendlebury, James Hird, Sam Mitchell, Lenny Hayes as the best midfielders of the 21st century.

I think everyone is missing a key part of the award 'best and fairest' - I am not saying it is a certainty but maybe words were said to the umps at some point by some players or there were blatant frees against or constantly appealing for free kicks and undermining umps / pushing the boundaries throughout a game - so some players would lose points even if they played 'the best'. Not saying this against any players in particular but it is something the media just seems to gloss over and it is just about performance - if it was just about performance suspended players would still be eligible.

Isn't this the reason the umpires do the voting?

He really was a putrid appointment. Even before Swann and Harley came on board, the three promotions to Dillon, Stephen Meade (who became GC) and Kane were all unwarranted and all should have remained in their previous roles.

When you think of leaders, you expect assuredness, presence, respect, a modicum of leadership (obviously) and a follow me type of person. And Dillon is none of those. He commands no respect, isn't assertive and is one of the worst media performers you'll come across (so is Kane, which is why you don't see her). I've met Meade a number of times on a professional level and there is a reason he hasn't been rolled out.

Hell, look at how quick this administration is quick to fine over the stupidest things (essentially they all just have an inability to read the room) and the fact they have an MRO system that suspends guys for 3 weeks or no ability for incidents resulting in concussions to be downgraded is ridiculous. And the less you say about Christian the better. The AFL and this leadership with its inconsistencies and being heavy handed on one hand and ignoring equally serious incidents on the other (i.e., Bailey Smith and Chris Scott) is evidence on that.

You could go on for pages about how inept Dillon is though. But looking at the AFL Commission and the quality of those people who are only in it for prestige and self interest, is it really any wonder Dillon was appointed.

I reckon they genuinely missed a trick in not appointing Brendan Gale.
I find myself cringing nearly every time he opens his mouth . I saw Laura twice in an open media situation. It was unwatchable.

It's unimaginable the Commission and anyone involved wouldn't know how bad they were before they were appointed.

Andrew Dillon is as unimpressive in the media as any front person I've ever seen in any organisation.

Obviously they would've done whatever they could to improve him but he just doesn't have any presence or is able to exude any authority. Sounds like the kid in the store room .

He reads directly off talking points and if he strays from them starts to get things wrong.

His media presentation is also the worst I can recall in terms of a ceo who is frequently public facing.

Tom Harley will be sharping a blade as we speak

I still can't believe how Anderson won GOTY.

I mean there was not one redeeming quality about it that made it special. As I pointed out appreciating they weren't in the running, but take our game against the Pies on the weekend, but all of these goals which would never win goal of the week let alone GOTY were far better; Houston, Rayner's first, Charlie's etc. I mean Zorko's and Gallop's first were basically the equivalent.

Therefore what on earth am I missing how Anderson's won head of Wash and Flanders? Anderson's was miles off those.

Bewildering.

Lukosious had a goal better than all the nominees as well.

Here we go....Dillon wants to reward players not winning the Brownlow. The guy is an idiot:

Ha ha.

The fact is Andrew is a nice guy but so far out of his depth and just talks waffle agreeing with whatever is put to him but never offering any viable practical way as to how and when that is to occur.

I've decided he's just incompetent. The media are going to have him for breakfast at some point.

Nick's been placed 3 times so we need to recognise that.

Sure ,just keep reminding the world he's failed.

If Nick plays most of the games next year you'd want to get your money on now wouldn't you.

Dillon has been on 360 and whatever show this is tonight and both times sounded as if he doesn't know what day it is.

How did he get the gig? He was an internal, so surely they knew this guy wasn’t going to cut it, he’s an abysmal leader and front man. He’s worse than an NRL CEO…is he an NRL plant?

Love Jon Ralph on the midweek tackle.....

Leads off with how horrible it is that people are questioning Matt Rowell's Brownlow. People questioning it in real time, checking coaches votes etc. Terrible and unfair!

Proceeds to spend 5-10 minutes questioning Rowell's Brownlow, questioning in real time, checking coaches votes etc

The bloke is a mess. Huge VIC bias agenda.

Edit: Gets better. Next segment is the changes to Father/ Son. Who does Jon use as an example? Lions of course, and somehow manages to include Gallop in the discussion. Can't make this stuff up.

What player worth their salt would want to accept a sop. What a ridiculous brain fart (and that's being generous).
The Brownlow has turned in the medal for the best midfielder in a team with a thin midfield.
There’s enough awards for midfielders already… half of the places in the AA are midfielders.

Perhaps they can give a gold/silver/bronze and give a 30minute montage a thank you speech slot for each of the place getters. Could sell the rights for another $100K with time for an extra hour of TV advertising time to fill. 🤦‍♂️

The did cover one thing on midweek tackle that was worth listening to.
Our travel costs are part of the soft cap (except for grand final). So we need to pick which games we can fly in a day early for.
How TF is that fair?!? Here interstate clubs, travel every second week, and we take hotels & meals out of your soft cap.
VIC clubs, you guys travel less, so feel free to spend the spare cash on additional specialist coaching.
