Prediction 2025 Brownlow medal

Ridiculous Brownlow, Rowell is a great player but he wasn't the best in the comp this year. Neither was Naicos though, so I'm just glad he didn't get a BS Brownlow to unjustifiably enhance his legacy with.

Surely this debacle tonight has to be the catalyst for change though. Enough is enough. Either take voting away from the umpires and give it to someone else or make it so that the medal is decided by a combination of umpires votes and votes of other groups or literally just scrap the whole award and replace it with another system. The status quo can't remain.
So who would you have suggested wins it? Rowell was a standout player when you look at previous winners. It's always been a subjective award. Other awards are there anyway. Coaches', players', club B&F, media awards. This is the only one that gets a 3 hour TV slot- so be it.

I think Rowell is the type of player who would really stand out to the umpires with the way he plays, and that probably snagged him a few more votes than he probably deserved. I'm not unhappy he won it, though. He seems like a good kid.

I thought Max might take votes away from Bailey in the last third of the season.

They really need to let the umpires review the player stats after a game to help them make better decisions. There were some real howlers in there. The whole room erupting in shock and laughter when NWM didn’t poll three votes against Melbourne sums up the Brownlow these days. It's a bit of a joke.

Even better than the room full of laughter is the reaction from Gawn & Trac - when Viney's own teammates start pissing themselves laughing is when you know it's off

Good on Buzz Lightyear. He was always going to win one.

I'm at 6s and 7s with this. Agree those at the coalface should be recognised. The inside mid bills.

I just think the umpires scrambled the egg.

I think a lot of their decisions are who is at the bottom of the pack handing them the ball. There may not be a possession registered but they are central to the umps.

In this vein though Garry Hocking should have won 15 Brownlows. It's not fair.

That Rising Star highlights package included multiple goals better than Anderson's
The problem with the presentation of the goal is that it lacked context. If I remember correctly, GC had been leading all day, but Collingwood had stormed home and just taken the lead late in the match. Then Anderson just took control and kicked a true captains goal that ultimately gave GC the win - it was stirring stuff. But without that context, the goal was just merely very good.

And on a boringly long show, they decide to limit the goals and marks to show only 3 each, the most exciting aspects of the game, and a lot better than numerous awkward interviews. But I have to say that the marks and goals finalists were underwhelming.

I love stats. I love using them to predict outcomes and win money even more.

Player averaging 27+ disposals, leading the free kick count and playing for a Top 10 side:

2025: Matt Rowell*
2024: Patrick Cripps*
2023: Lachie Neale*
2022: Patrick Cripps*
2021: Clayton Oliver
2020: -
2019: Nat Fyfe*

Like the guy of not
N Daicos has polled 98 votes in 3 seasons and not won it.
Incredibly stiff
Averaging nearly 33.3 votes per session would have seen Nick win at least one in past decades

But shows how one sided the voting can get now days compared with the tight finishes of years past

For a while now i have been of the opinion that the coaches award is a better guide to players than the Brownlow and again this year makes it even more compelling.

Look at defenders and how many votes they got for the Brownlow compared to how many they got for the coaches
Do the same for forwards

It is such a ****ing stark difference

The umps really only care about inside midfielder and occasionally outside mids

Forwards and especially defenders getting ignored.

This is the official Melbourne FC Twitter account (same post is on their other social media accounts but this is easier to share)

Never a good look for the league when the club of the player awarded 3 votes is taking the piss

Hmm what would people think if we swapped the Brownlow and coaches award?

Announce Brownlow votes every round like we do with the coaches award now and hide the coaches award votes until this week..
So basically swap them?

I also find it funny that people say the Mathews trophy should be the number 1 award when you will find apart from watching tapes leading into games a lot of players probably don't watch that much footy and just vote for who has hype.

The Brownlow is melting people brains and i love it..

You have Coll supporters crying(not all)
Dogs supporters cheering like they won a GF since Smith didn't win(not all)
Fans from every supporter base laughing at NAS not getting the 3 against Melb
Melb players and media laughing at NAS not getting the 3
Not to mention all those trolling others due to results

It is entertaining as hell

Ouch

West Coast have claimed one more unwanted record in a year to forget for West Coast, the club has polled the lowest amount of Brownlow Medal votes by a club in a single season.

The Eagles mustered just 12 votes as a collective on Monday night, breaking the existing AFL record of 15 that they set in their two-win campaign in 2022.

Half of West Coast’s votes came from their sole win of the year against St Kilda in round 10, with rising superstar Harley Reid awarded one, defender-turned-midfielder Brady Hough two and small forward Liam Ryan the three for two goals and 14 touches.

He then goes on to say it's a bit of a Cats player hangout at the moment 😂
From what I gather they have a brew-pub and bathhouse in basically the same building. So basically beer and jacuzzi. :thumbsu:

Reminds me of my younger days when one of my best friends used to make cedar hot tubs and we test drive them when I helped him install them in people's often scenic decks. Definitely a great way to spend a day and/or evening. Don't blame them for hanging out. :grinv1:
