I think I just heard Cal twomey say that Darren Burgess will be at Essendon next year on Footy classified. I hope he is not right
Isn't Burgess keen to help set up the new Thebarton training facilities & also stay with his family in Adelaide...

Probably just throwing names at a dart board given Dons have been Burtoned.

He also bought into a gym and based on the quote in the article, it didn't look like a passive investment. That said, it could be and they're just cashing in on his reputation and he gets a nice return based upon his non-existent involvement. But I'd take him at his quote, obviously it's a passion and he wouldn't want his name associated with something in the high performance arena that he has no influence over.

Has there been any talk of how Jordan Butts received his punctured lung? If it was by that off the ball hit by Sam Darcy, has that been mentioned in the media? With all the over the top penalties handed out to "protect the head", we have an incident off the ball where a player has had his lung punctured, and that is considered ok?

I don't think it should be part of the game. Not only have the Crows lost a player for the rest of the game, but also potentially some weeks to come. There are clear guidelines in the system to suspend Darcy for 3 weeks, if you consider it was striking (yes, clearly), it was intentional (yes, clearly), it was high impact (yes, it punctured his lung) and it was to the body. That's either directly to the tribunal or 3 weeks.

I've checked the AFL website and it doesn't even look like it has been mentioned for a review? Am I missing something? I can only assume the injury wasn't caused by Darcy's hit to Butts' chest?

I just saw the alleged incident of Darcy’s punch to Butts’ chest. I don’t think you can suspend a player doing that, because that’s an incident you’d see in any quarter of any given game. The tribunal would be packed with these types of hearing if it becomes suspendable!

The other thing is that you can’t prove that was the hit that caused the lung puncture. It could have happened before or after that hit in a separate incident. One of those “unfortunate accidents” in our game it seems.

I don't see how impact in that spot can possibly cause a punctured lung.

Jesus, but no case to answer? How does someone get hospitalised for five days and no investigation into why?
I don't know. At the time I thought there may have been a pre-existing 'problem'?

I personally didn't think Darcy did much wrong tbh, at least nothing we don't see dozens of times pretty much every game

Yeah, bit of bugger for him

Heard it mentioned somewhere 6-8 weeks - no idea how accurate or trustworthy that source was

Poor bloke just keeps getting injured. At least he proved again that when he’s in good physical nick, he’s comfortably an AFL quality KPD.

Good.

Does Burgess have an understudy? Given his success, I'd think were you suitably qualified and in a position where you were a bit younger than him, with a lot of your career in front of you: then working with Burgess and learning the philosophy would set you up for life you'd think.

I also kind of wonder if it's something we should be investing in, if it's allowable/doable. Burgess keeps having these kinds of offers dangled, and even if he never takes one, eventually he'll want to retire, even if that's 15 years away.

Totally agree, Jen.
I'm reporting you for violating the board rules

It's been mentioned here before that there are several people that Burgess had worked with previously who he has brought in since he's been here. Not sure on names.

How is that "going well"

I don't see how impact in that spot can possibly cause a punctured lung.
A pneumothorax can certainly be caused by sharp or, in this case, blunt trauma to the chest. It can also occur spontaneously with no previous insult but in this case it would almost certainly have been caused by Darcy’s thump.

Pretty unlucky though for both players and I can see why he wasn’t suspended given the frequency of chest pushing in the game against the rarity of this particular outcome.

There is another option - the actual hit wasn't covered by the cameras.
