Did Butts maybe have a rib fracture from a previous game?

Then a fairly innocuous knock caused the lung issue
Surely you would be in some pain from a fractured rib.

This is a strange one.

I remember playing a school trial game where our beanpole ruckman, who couldn't kick, handball or mark, but was near 7ft tall, ended up with a punctured lung. There was this 'pop' sound that I thought was just a collision, but turned out the poor lad had all the air removed from his lung.

There is another option - the actual hit wasn't covered by the cameras.
And there is another option - multiple various hits adding up, and somewhere along the line, causing a significant injury, which we may never know when it had occurred.

The only time I would say when it is obvious, is when a player gets hit hard to the chest, and then right away winces in pain and becomes laboured in breathing. Otherwise, I would imagine it to be impossible to pinpoint when the exact time of the lung puncture.

I think it’s a sad situation to be honest, how with any significant injury, we’re conditioned to wanting to suspend an opposition player. The reality is that a lot of the serious injuries are purely from accidents. For example, Cook with the head clash; players bumping into other players and the posts, can all contribute some form of risk. It happens much more often than the intentional injuries.

Yeah but nobody is talking.

Maybe but we haven't made any accustaions in that regard so maybe it was just that hit by "hands of stone" Darcy. It sucks because Butts is my fav defender on our list but it does look like a freak accident.

In saying that though, if that happened to Nick Daicos...scorched earth policy by the AFL until the player responsible could be deregistered

Just give him Cetaphil. That should smooth it over for Nick.

ADELAIDE defender Max Michalanney is set to miss the rest of the home and away season due to a hamstring strain.

Michalanney suffered the injury during the third quarter of the Crows' Showdown thrashing of Port Adelaide on Saturday night.

The Crows said the important defender would miss the next 4-6 weeks.
