One player I wouldn't mind giving a second chance to in the MSD is Isiah Winder. Playing great in the WAFL and seems to have matured alot since his West Coast days. He is almost an ideal age at 23.

Worth also noting that the default assumptions about gaining advantages through the draft through the F/S or NGA points (and therefore the discussion in operating in that space if other teams have these tied players) is less strong, because this is the first year that they've updated the points to each finishing positon.

Obviously, it still exists, because you still get a 20% player on discount, and the points per later pick is still too high than reality (even if lower than before) and the idea that you can draft one player with more than one pick is still an advantage.

It's just less egregious as the last 10 years.

Ideally if the system worked perfectly you'd have teams not bothering to trade at all because there would be no meaningful change in their ability to have an overall better draft hand (if they assume a bid is coming in pick 10 and they had pick 14, they would simply use the pick 14 to match the bid on pick 10 with exact points plus the 20% discount, as trading the pick 14 would make no difference to their overall draft strength as a collective in terms of what other teams would be willing to pay the pick 14), but we're not there yet, but we're closer than we were before.

A simple way of explaining this is to consider pick 35 and consecutive.

Old draft points you could match pick 1 with almost 5 consecutive picks from 35 onwards and match pick 10 with less than 3 picks from 35 onwards.

New draft points you can match pick 1 with 8 picks from 35 onwards (no team has 8 list spots, you would need to use an earlier pick), and match pick 10 with almost 4 (as opposed to almost 3) consecutive picks from 35 onward.

Of course a team would still trade pick 35, 36, 37, 38 for pick 10 if it was a live trade with zero players to bid on in reality (hence the advantage and the trades will still exist), but the previous system only required them to trade pick 35, 36 and like 40 for pick 10, which was ridiculous.
It will be interesting to see where the points-value "sweet spot" is in the new system, and whether clubs with (projected) very early academy players (say picks 1-5) prefer to actually target late R1 / early R2 picks to match, or is the model still going to be to hoard picks in the mid-30s. Possibly will differ by year depending on the depth of the draft.

Zero Hanger also mentioned Zac Walker had a medical with us in the mid season draft video. He's a 191cm intercept defender and only 19. He's impressed me with the little bit I've seen of him. Very clean.
Another 19 year old Intercept defender from the CTL Gus Papal has also done a medical.

What are the suggestions?
Is he a bull?
Is he infallible?
Doesn't he have a credit card?
Do we need a conclave or a MC to give him his debut?

And so on. You get the idea. No need for me to pontificate.

Yep, It's not looking like a good draft at the moment and I'm not excited by the names at that point. Still a long way to go though. We should be trying to trade it for Bergman, Butters or Rowell anyway IMO. There's been some talk of trading up in the top 5 by some in the knows too. If all that doesn't happen, trading into 2026 might be the go and may make it a bit easier to land Butters the following year.
Don't we have a few F/S in 2026, we'll need a few points for those picks?
Whats Butters/Rowell draft haul? 3 1st's or 2 top 10 picks?

Busslinger + Will Darcy is a decent starting point, especially with JOD playing well and Croft around as well
Looking at our list, we need some mosquitoes 🦟 in the fwd/def lines
Flea out long term, McNeil still not consistent, Arty injured, Dolan not physically ready, Duryea looking old, Baker/Bramble not consistent.

I suspect our first choice MSD pick (Sellwood) goes before our pick so we end up with the quick SA small forward.

That's one. Dolan is developing too although he seems more Lohmann than genuine FP crumber. I'd be happy to draft one more.

Personally I prefer Croft behind the ball, yes he has incredible endurance but he's not the type of kick I look for in a wing and he does have natural aggression in the air. I think he, Buss and JOD together make a very good defensive troika even if we now have Lobb for two more years after this one. A guy who covers that much ground means he gets back to cover but gets involved in rebound play and many forwards are going to struggle on him in transition.
That profile sounds like a ruck to me. He’s taller than Khamis. Is he taller than Smith?

A tiny bit taller but nowhere near as wide across the shoulders.
Could be a chop-out option but I don't think he's a no 1 ruck.

A minor stroke of luck that Essendon's delayed game vs GC means they slip below us in the draft order (based on winning percentage), owing to the fact they missed an opportunity to lose to the Suns. They will almost certainly be taking a KPD, who will also probably debut the very next night in Brisbane.
You'd think it'd be almost impossible for a MSD pick to play the following night unless they were taken from the clubs VFL program. I'd imagine they just go smaller in defence for atleast one week.

Just a little info about us in the up Coming Mid-Season Draft

Massimo Raso is on the radar of several clubs seeking a small forward, with North Melbourne and Western Bulldogs among the clubs interested.

Western Bulldogs have interviewed Gippsland tall Zac Walker and athletic Calder forward Cooper Herbert.
