Cant see him being available at our current first pick with that profile.

People in here know far more than me, what’s the catch? Whats his knocks? Where is he expected to go? How did he test?
That was an impressive video but if that's everything he did in the game - not just his highlights - then his stats would be something like 12 disposals. Albeit with four goals to his name.

I looked up three sets of power rankings and he only appeared in one, at #45. I hope our first pick isn't that late! Worth a shot with a second or third round pick.

I’d take a four goal, 12 disposal game from a small forward any day of the week.

Agree. If you were confident he would do that every week he'd go at pick 1, never mind somewhere in the third round.

I don't think a small forward has ever kicked a 100 goals in a VFL/AFL season.
23 games x 4 = 92. Near enough!

It appears that there’s no real need to move our current first and we’d end up with either Dovaston, Farrow or O Taylor?

We’d only move if we’re enamoured with someone a little higher?

He Kicked 5 and had 12 possessions in a National Carnival game but he’s also averaged 19 disposals and 5 tackles and a goal a game for a mid table Rebels team.

A young man called Joel Freijah had one 6 goal performance on the wing for the GWV rebels in CTL and slipped to pick 45 due to him not really being able to replicate anything close to that for the rest of year.
He turned out to be pretty handy.

I get Papley sort of vibes from Talor Byrne. We don't have anyone like that in our forward half.

West, Dolan, Weightman, Byrne, Arty Jones, VDM, McNeil actually starts to sound alright.

Do we think Grlj will be available at pick 6 if we get it? Looks like Zak Butters 2.0.

He spent the majority of his time playing midfield in the Coates league which can sort of explain the lower goal tally. Rebels midfield wasn't great.

Not sure how he tested exactly, but to the naked eye he looks like he has good top end speed. Certainly has a bit to work with, and some good traits, I don't see any high end traits though. I'd be happy to select him, but I wouldn't be picking him any higher then our 2nd round pick.

Thats a fair write up. I know they make everyone sound like the stars but there is plenty to work with if that lists of strengths is accurate.

STRENGTHS:

  • Clean hands
  • Evasiveness
  • Power
  • Pressure
  • Speed
  • Toughness

IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Endurance
  • Size

Can deal with his size at AFL when you have those strengths. Especially in the front half at the feet of Sam Darcy. Endurance can be improved to an acceptable AFL level.

That 5 goal haul against Vic Metro is something else. He had blind turn dribbler, great diving smother, a left foot snap from deep in the right pocket and a speccy on his way to 5 snags.

Cant see him being available at our current first pick with that profile.

I'd say they've listed his height as a weakness given he was asked to play midfield through alot of the CTL, potentially explains the endurance aswell. I think he goes late first round (in the 20s) but had he played predominantly forward likely goes higher any club that drafts him would be picking him as a forward. He will be there at our first but like alot of guys mentioned in the last few pages he likely falls just after our first pick and we'll before our second.

There's been talk of trading up in the top 10 since early on in the season, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. My preference is to hold. I think we might try and trade up our 2nd round pick if not. Brisbane, Gold Coast, Carlton, Essendon will be looking for more points to match some bids. Can see Thredgold, Barker, Sumner-Pickett and possibly even Emmet having some appeal to us in the 20 - 30 range. Oskar Taylor obviously as well if he lasts that long.

Talor Byrne is another small forward you should have a look at.
What impressed me in the highlights vid was his balance. He gathers the ball at pace and distributes with poise with an accurate left foot. Looks ideally suited to a half-forward, part-time mid role. Very skilled at ground level but also plays taller than his 174cm. Certainly worth consideration.

Will likely slide down the draft a bit if he's only 174cm. Good pick if we have one in the third round.

His height is fine for a small/half forward which is where he will play at the next level. He is 3cm taller then Kozi who has no issues rolling through for the occasional CBA.

Taller than Brent Daniels who was a good draft pick for Giants too

Cody Curtin is a player I wouldn’t mind having a look at in the second round. Can play at either end, already a big kid - could see him developing into a strong full back. Really competitive, good contested mark.

Really need to see his combine results, moves a bit like Kieran Collins. Both his speed and agility concern me.

Having another look at the current draft order; unfortunately I can’t see Sam Grlj making it past Essendon’s picks, if Richmond don’t take him that is.

His game would suit us perfectly if we were to trade up, however unless we have a couple of surprises early, can’t see him falling through now.

With the rise of Robey & x.Taylor he would be the likely one to fall.
His damaging speed is certainly something we don’t have a lot of.

I currently have him and Robey going to the Tigers with Essendon taking Taylor and Lindsay.

Think you’re spot on with the Tigers; they would be mad to pass him up especially after they had a good look at him in their VFL side. Where he played well.
Complements the midfield group they’re building nicely. However, Robey / Taylor combo would be a nice spread for them also.

You dont think dons will pick Sharp at this stage?

I don't think so. Have him going to whoever gets the Suns pick.

Assuming it’s
  1. West Coast - Duursma
  2. West Coast - Duff-Tytler
  3. Richmond - Robey
  4. Richmond - Taylor/Grlj
  5. Essendon - Taylor/??
  6. Essendon - Cumming

But I could also see Sharp going to one of those,

Sharp is a good chance to be taken at pick 2 by West Coast.

Strong midfielder, good size and skills, ready made, leadership qualities, perfect for a rebuilding club.
