No chance Darcy is bid on before our second pick.

The picks we acquired in the 70s will be good in case we need to match a bid after that.

Looking forward to see who we bring in, and to see how our draft crop from last year improve.

It's unlikely he doesn't get bid on but he almost certainly doesn't get bid on before a pick in the late 30's, though. From that point on we're allowed to take him for effectively free, and the difference between a main list and a rookie spot is so minimal to be not that notable given the zero draft pick outlay for him.
Would rather not have to go into deficit and erode next year's draft picks though.
We're going to need them for expected bids on our FS & NGA kids.

Think we'll see around 10 picks go before 33 so it comes at 27-28 come draft night. GC will trade 15 and blues may trade both 9 & 11 so first 16 picks will be used on players. Picks 17-32 likely used on bids.

I did a very rough mock and got the pick down to 27 haha

So 2 inside 33 plus Darcy. Hoping we can nail two rippers again. Bring on 2026.
And while the 14 will get pushed out because of bids, the 33 will come in because picks between 14 and 33 will have to be used to match the top 10 draft pick points.

Starts off 19 picks apart and very well could end up only being 8-9 live picks apart instead.

Didn’t think of that. That’s fantastic.

Teams only get a 10% discount, not 20%, and picks in the 40s are now worth a lot less than they were in the past.

In the past: bid on pick 6, if you want to match with three consecutive picks, you could do it with pick 38, 39, 40.

It means that picks 7-37 get pushed back one but picks 41 onward get brought up three.

Now with the new system if you want to match pick 6 with 3 consecutive picks you have to use picks 29, 30, 31.

It means picks 7-28 get pushed back one but pick 32 onward get pushed up 2.

Teams still get a discount but it's not as farcical as using picks in the late 30's, 40s and 50s to match top 10 players. They have to pay up with something meaningful, at least one in the teens and 2 in the 20's, to match top 10 picks.

Melbourne are going to get some value out of Carlton if they don’t shift that pick 9 before draft night. They just need to say they’re bidding on Dean at pick 8 unless Carlton do a swap or pick 9 for pick 8 and throw something else in too.

I reckon a few teams who need to match bids do some trades to trade up to get the points, once they spend the game scenario planning and realise they might be a few short.

Trading up into picks in the 20's by downgrading future seconds for future thirds or whatever.

Our pick 33 itself might play a part in that. More than happy to downgrade it to a much later pick in the 30's/early 40's if we can upgrade a future pick. It's a weak draft anyway, we may very much get a future 0 gamer with pick 33 but an upgrade might be meaningful in a stronger future draf.t

Wondering if I should merge some of the clubs picks for the mock draft
As stated before, I’ll take Brisbane/Gold coast because that wouldn’t be interesting for anyone given they’ll just take the academy players

Blues swans freo suns eagles lions gws all have multiple players tied to them. Would say swans gc & lions wont take many live picks outside those players.

Agree, would be very happy to do pick 33 + F3 for a F2 depending on the team. Essendon for example might need points if they’re planning on matching Sweid (ESPN ranking #20) and El Achkar (ESPN ranking #30) and their F2 would be very attractive.

Farrow Taylor or Dovaston please
I'm all in on the Taylor/Byrne combo.
Not sure Farrow or Dovaston make it to our pick. Others of interest at 33 for me are Thredgold, Thomas, LeRay and Kickett.
I'd also be bidding on both Essendon boys if they're still there aswell as Fincher (StK) and Williams (WCE).

Think like the trade period this becomes the first **** you draft and teams bid on players a lot earlier

Twomey reported Blues weren't planning on moving 9 or 11 instead matching a bid at 9 (and getting an end of first round pick as change) and protecting pick 11.

If they use 9 on matching the bid, 11 gets pushed back doesn’t it?

So if Dons use their first pick on Dean which would be the 4th bid on the night, it comes at pick 8 (1443 points), their pick 9 would be pick 12 (1140 points), is it a 10% discount? So about 160 points short..

So live pick 14, would spit back out to 17, either just before ours or just after

Yes its a 10% discount now. 9 will cover enough points for a bid so 11 wont be touched apart from shifting back one due to the matched bid.
