Considering we have a lot of club tied prospects next year, I wonder if we’ll consider trading our 2026 first into this year. We are building an exciting group of young talent, if we can bring in a couple more top talent with this group, we will be very well placed long term.

Mojorisin said something the other day that made me think this is what the club is likely thinking. Trade a 1 & F1 to get as high as possible this year.

There are a few clubs with multiple early picks including the Suns who as usual have multiple acadamy kids projected to go early first round.

27 year old 197cm no thanks
So he's taller than All Australian, MVP & Best and Fairest Luke Darcy? Cool.

A few solid rucks over the years have been shorter than that. John Barnes another example.

A lot of clubs have FS and NGA kids in 2025 so it's a good opportunity to trade into the pointy end of this draft.
Half of clubs this year will want to farm points.

Think history is starting to show Milesi was a good recruiter. I had some doubts even up until early this year. Some of his picks have really come on
When judging Milesi reckon you have to also consider Michalanney and Jasper Fletcher too, as we bid on both. They’re both jets. The evidence is definitely starting to stack up.

As it current stands for 2025

I don't see any pick higher than 35 being used on any of our Father-Sons/NGA talent

Though I'm always a fan of trading down esp if we finish bottom of the first round

Far less easy to farm points with the new system though.

It'll still happen but it'll be far less blatant, nd you'll see some teams actually match bids with a pick vaguely in the same ballpark.

For example in the old system if you had a player bid on with pick 10 and you had pick 15 live you would either match with pick 15 live (80%) or trade down that pick 15 to (for example) pick 30, 31 and 35. You would only need pick 30 and 31 to match pick 10 and you get a live pick 35 as the "arbitrage" in the system.

However in the new system if there was a bid pick 10 and you had 15 and you did an identical trade you would be forced to use the points of all 3 picks and your final pick would slide back to pick 43 in the "arbitrage" rather than 35. A small but improved difference.

There's still arbitrage but you miss out on less if you fail to execute trades or trade around etc (ie the failure is missing out on pick 35 old system vs missing out on pick 43 new system) meaning the need to "trade out our future first" etc is less critical/advantageous

Yes but the majority of their competition wasn’t 205cm+

Jason Dunstall kick over a thousand goals at full forward and is the same height as Ed Richards

Managed to get some MSD relevant information whilst out and about today. The club has started doing interviews and background work on potential draftees now. Two names I've been told to keep front of mind are Tom Evans (half-back) and Charlie Rozenes (small Fwd).
Doesn't look like we will be picking out of Footscray at this stage.

Do we know if Marra Will be going on the inactive list for this season so we have an extra MSD pick?

Well I hope Bevo has given Richards a kick up the arse and told him to get his kicking boots on.

STRENGTHS:
  • Goal sense
  • Finishing
  • Smarts
  • Speed

IMPROVEMENTS:
  • Production
  • Size

Evans has reinvented himself as a small defender and again had little trouble accumulating possessions on Saturday. The Bendigo Pioneers product provided plenty of run out of the backline as the Young Guns’ primary playmaker, setting up several give-and-go passages. His ability to chain possessions and bite off aggressive options by foot helped him stand out, along with a few brave efforts flying for overhead marks. He’s certainly doing all he can this season.

SA wingers Barker & LeRay really interest me. Have the run & dash we are looking for as well as big bodies to develop into, which gives them huge scope for potential inside roles too. Hoping they’re high up on our radar.

LeRay has certainly been on my radar all year. I like Barker aswell but LeRays toughness, Footy Smarts and inside/outside balance set him apart.

Yikes. Four of the top 7 ranked there are linked to northern academies.

Also I see what MR & Mrs Duursma did there ... Willem, Xavier, Yasmin and Zane.
I guess if there was a fifth kid he/she would have been called Vlad/Victoria? 🤣

Just watched three quarters of the young guns v Vic Country game and noticed there are quite a few of the 19 yo rucks that look good. It was a pretty good battle in there. Toner will go very early in the MSD. Ali does some very good stuff defensively reads the play incredibly well but foot disposal was off, raw af because he'd been doing basketball up until this year but shows signs. Herbert did some really good work as a third tall type up forward.

Dogs have another batch of interviews scheduled this coming week for MSD prospects including small forwards, rucks, key forwards and backs, half backs and atleast one midfielder.
Looks like the field is wide open with no spotlight on any one position or player type.

Best available scenario perhaps. Think that’s wise for the MSD.

Personally I would like a young developing KPF to help release Croft abit.
