For the MSD

I hope we aim for long term instead of a short 2025 plug
Agree with this ... mostly. It should always be our default position. Topping up with the likes of Hayes, Gowers, Baker etc rarely pays off.

The exception is if:
  1. We think we are genuinely a chance at the flag this season. (I think we are, so I hope Sammy & Bevo do) AND
  2. We have a position where we are screwed if a key player is out with a LTI or suspension because there is no suitable replacement player on the list. Usually that would be ruck (Timmy) but it could be someone else. Such as West or Dale.
In those situations I'd be OK with a 6 month contract for a mature age player (preferably 22+) who could slot in and do a reasonable job in the role. And who knows, he might even show he has some further development in him and become a longer term player for us.

However in general I'd rather be looking at a 19-20yo who got overlooked in the recent drafts and is now starting to shine.

Busslinger + Will Darcy is a decent starting point, especially with JOD playing well and Croft around as well
We're not surely planning for the future on the assumption of Will Darcy, a player who had four disposals upon NAB League debut and would go undrafted if we brought forward the national draft to next week

Naming 3 other players in my post would suggest not?

He also had 5 tackles for a 198cm key forward
That type of pressure gets players drafted at that height

Obviously things can change but mentioning him at all is a bit silly. In terms of likely outcomes and predicting for the future, he isn't a factor now any more than another 500 kids running around NAB League and school footy as it stands and their likelihood of making the grade.

I disagree.
I tracked Sam during his draft year and he was definitely a late bloomer, even if he did project as draft worthy (~4th rounder) before the season, ahead of where Will is now. His round 1, in front of every scout who was there to watch Daicos, changed the narrative instantly.

Will's going to get more attention than Joe Bloggs the fringe kid because he's shown good APS form, and he's got pedigree. Scouts do watch the APS games too.

'Silly' is a very harsh judgement considering how much attention he'll get as the season wears on.

I understand the genetic and the fact that his body has to fill out, but nothing about this screams draft worthy, in comparison to Darcy.

And in any case, even if he does surprise me and rise to the level of being added to our F/S list as a rookie after going unbid on or whatever, we're hardly making strategic list management decisions on the basis of who we did or didn't commit to with literally the last person on our list.

All that we have to go on are one APS game where his coach pumped him up, and one NAB League game where he had 4 touches - and looks incredibly skinny, so skinny that you do wonder if he ever has any capacity to put on weight. Anyway.

I'm not even sure I'd take another tall defender after JOD, Buss and Croft (they still exist) but if you're somehow got a serious bee in your bonnet about even considering Will, how desperate do you think we are to add another?

Don't need to add another we will have Will Darcy, he is going to be a 400 game player for sure 😉

In all seriousness Warcy does need to be considered there is no way he goes undrafted and you can only have so many 200+ cm players developing.

Croft I still think the jury is out on his best position, happy with him staying forward for now while there is no one else there in the twos but I see his best position as either HHF/Wing or CHB once he fills out a bit more.

Personally I prefer Croft behind the ball, yes he has incredible endurance but he's not the type of kick I look for in a wing and he does have natural aggression in the air. I think he, Buss and JOD together make a very good defensive troika even if we now have Lobb for two more years after this one. A guy who covers that much ground means he gets back to cover but gets involved in rebound play and many forwards are going to struggle on him in transition.

I agree his kicking leaves alot to the imagination but a player with his Endurance, aggression and reach would be a real weapon on the wing especially considering how capable he is at ground level. If we could combine him with Schache they'd be the perfect wingman.

If the JUH situation doesn’t work out with him coming back we need more talls in development. The VFL side only has Chan Hargreaves with any height up forward and one ruck. But last week they did have Gardner, Buss and Jones as KPD. So sounds like we have too many KPDs and are 2 short at least in KPF and a ruck. But if you take into account Jones and Lobbs age we will need kids coming through.

Small forwards with El S and Hicks and Eagleton.

Mids with Cooney and Levi.

Talls with Hol, Will D, Max D

On top of Buss, Dolan, Jacques, Smith and Cooper Hynes as new talent - the future looks good.

Croft, Darcy and Marra all being out is a pretty simple reason why there are no talls forward at VFL. Not sure why we played all three of Buss, Jones and Gardner in defence though, surely Gardner should've went forward.

I don’t understand how people here can be so pessimistic. Can’t see him playing less than 600 myself. Should be the first Bulldog to kick a thousand goals too if big brother Sam doesn’t beat him to it.

And that’s from CHB.
