I think it would be a no brainer if he's there, he should really be going top 10 in this draft IMO. He's the safest bet to play over 200 games in a not so easy to pick from draft.

Yep. It goes to show draft watchers don't always get it right and some of the commentary about a player's competitiveness can't be relied upon.

Lindsay's contested possession rate of just 25% is quite concerning and I think watchers have a reason to be concerned though. Compare that to Freijah who had similar comments made about him, his contested possession rate was just under the 40% mark which is very high for an outside player.

It's fair to look at. We all see different things.
Oskar Taylor as an example was the "distributer" out of the back half of his team yet the number of targets I see him now by foot concerns me - despite draft watchers taking about how good his kicking is.
Some of that is just decision making our trying to be too "cute" under pressure so how will he go when he has less time at AFL level and will be kicking unbalanced?

Most players around our range have significant flaws and I'm not confident about any of them.
If in doubt, I err towards guys who just move the ball forward and somehow impact games despite flaws. NHH probably has more question marks than so called safer picks but I rate his "type" highly.

This draft doesn't have many "safe" picks I'd say Sharp and Dovaston have the highest floors of all those available although not as high of ceiling as others in the first round. I think the fact alot can be seen as "boom or bust" is why this draft is seen as so weak. Duursma who is now widely tipped by the media as the number one pick i see as having an extremely low floor. Then you have guys Like Uwland, Barker and NHH who have spent alot of the season out injured adding extra question marks.

I totally agree on Taylor and have said that I think his kicking is something he needs to work on myself. I also totally agree on the picks in our range.

I wasn't trying to say you can't question or have different opinions in fact I'd be disappointed if people didn't question some of this stuff as a lot of it is over the top. I was just commenting on Lindsay. From the eye he could be a lot more competitive particularly defensively and the data also suggests he could be a lot more competitive. That particular comment is a very fair one IMO.

His decision making was outlined as a weakness on the rookie me website.

No doubt he is a great user of the footy , but I can see why you are a little wary.
I see a bit of Jack Billing’s with him. What a a star he was in his junior years.
 
I think in the likely chance Darcy slips to the rookie draft or there's no mature KPD option that the Dogs go a western jets kid as their last selection. Makes sense for the dogs to take a home grown kid in a weak draft.
 
With operation Butters, Excluding our F/S and NGA’s this is most likely our last chance to add to our young crop of talent with Freijah, Croft, Sanders, Hynes, Dolan plus hopefully Jacques & Luke Kennedy and maybe even Sellwood.

Darcy, JOD and Davidson also only 23

If we nail these two picks we really set ourselves up for sustained success.

It’s a huge draft for us.

Very confident there will be good players at both our current picks.

Agree all players around 14 have flaws but thats where recruiters earn their cash.

Im coming around to Barker for this reason, his downside is an injury rather than anything else.

Would be very happy with NHH also. Didnt realise he was the stingrays captain until recently. Injury record not good however.

Holding on to the slim hope that Dovaston slides through.

The talk that Adelaide might swap first and future first for Carlton’s 9 and 11 would not be good for us. Finger crossed that doesn’t happen

As of 2019, we'd be able to automatically add him as a rookie and it would take our last rookie draft pick. I don't think it's changed since then.

Would you say Lindsay is a high risk high reward type of selection ? From what I gather he’s a great user of the footy but doesn’t defend well or have any other elite traits.

Drafting a long term project ruck is a strange call when we already have the fossil developing nicely in the vfl

I think some questions have been asked around Lindsay regarding
(a) whether he's genuinely as good a kick as some commentators are saying
(b) whether he can get enough of his own footy
(c) whether he can defend - we don't need more running receivers

I'd prefer we stayed away from him but I'm not a close watcher of the juniors. I'll trust that Regan and Power have done enough watching and reviewing to get it right.

I wonder sometimes whether all these commentators have done their own homework or whether a good number of them are just picking up and paraphrasing what others have said. Particularly with those outside the top 10.

Modern media can't afford to have journos going off and doing their own research on 60 or more juniors now, can they?

I think he's the opposite, high floor but low ceiling.
 
Lindsay reminds me alot of Murphy Reid last year. I feel alot of clubs and fans alike are focusing on what he can't do rather then what he can. Whether he has the immediate impact of Reid I'm not sure, I think both of their ceilings are similar in that they probably don't become top 10-15 players but likely notch up 150+ games. In a draft that has alot of boom or bust types he offers as more a safe option.
