Safe to say I reckon he has already ticked over the 200cm mark

Sam was 204cm when drafted and currently listed at 208cm

Can see will being a fantastic 204cm FB option when he fills out
Will is clearly standing a bit in front of Sam (so forced perspective), we have no idea what shoes they're wearing, if they're on a slope or hill, and Sam is almost certainly crouching a little bit to put his arm around Will - as he's much taller and always has been his life, it's probably something he does instinctively when taking photos or putting his arm around his brother or whatever.

To dismiss the literal physical measurements at the combine which they undertake proper procedure for measuring height which was less than 2 months ago, and to use the evidence of one cropped photo and all its flaws to simply say, that either the measurement was wrong or he's grown several cms in a matter of a few weeks is nothing short of ridiuclous lol.

Maybe Will is 197cm instead of 196cm due to rounding or the time of day that they measured him at the combine or whatever but to basically conspiracy theory the idea that he's actually is or has the potential to be like more than 3 inches taller that what was measured or whatever is ridiculous.

In fact the very reason Will is 'merely' 196cm - tall no doubt but not unicorn unique physical traits that Sam is - is part of the very reason that Will will almost certainly be available for free to us to add to our list (late pick/rookie). If he truly was 204cm tall or would grow into that amount he'd have risen up far higher up the rankings than what has actually happened in reality.

We have about 5 players on our list for tonight and it's very likely we will land one of them.
Tomorrow night we have a few more players to consider and don't be surprised if we buck the media focus on ruckman and go in another direction.
A couple of midfielders/forwards were interviewed on the weekend.

Also I think our first pick stays where it is. Every chance we shift pick 33 and take one of the hybrid types you're alluding to later.
Also I like the mail you're getting, seems very similar to mine.
If I was going to rank the 5 we're interested in with our first from the clubs perspective I'd say.
1. Nairn
2. Kyle
3. Lindsay
4. O.Taylor
5. Jai Murray

I'm not sure Taylor is quite that high on our list but Nairn is as good as gone to Melbourne and Kyle might not make it to our selection. There are some advantages and disadvantages on us bidding for players after 20.
Clubs can sign the first 20 picks to 3 year deals and that might suite us before Tassie comes in.
However, if a club bids on Kyle and we were to bid on Carmichael the Swans can cover it but it thins out their options with their other boys. I like Carmichal and Murray as options for us but Lindsay or a slider has a lot of appeal as well.

That 14 to 15 swap won't really have any effect if I'm reading it correctly as that will be a pick that gets eaten up by bids anyway right, so we will still be effectively picking at the same spot there ?

Correct - we just gave away 53 to bring our second in by a few spots.

53 was always likely going to be moved also as that's going to be the Darcy pick, so we will still have a later pick (60 or whatever it is now) or a rookie pick for Darcy depending on where he is bid on.

Shows you yet another case with the flaws of the bidding system - the practical talent available to us is the same either way - so we're able to do a bit of currency conversion (the points attached to bidding systems and the reality of actual player talent are two different currencies) to improve our draft hand. We do this by getting a bit of the currency benefit given to GC, to the zero-sum detriment of some teams that move down 1 spot in the draft. I think also we used 53 as a bit of a backup if there were some late whispers that Darcy would be bidded on in the 30s (to use as a bid match), but that hasn't eventuated, so we don't need to keep a pick 53 that's effectively worthless with our three open list spots only.

Ever other club that wasn't able to convert the fixed value of points via trades are left holding Itchy and Scratchy money

53 for them will come up to a pick in the mid-late 40s, as clubs will use multiple picks in the 20s and 30s to match earlier bids.

I think in practical terms GC get a very small (like around 50-75 points) increase to their overall DVI holding, whereas for us, we get the practical returns of a jump above Essendon and Sydney, who have a small but not zero chance of taking the players that we wanted to take in that range, at the cost of our 2026 4th round pick. GC make this trade to protect themselves at a bid coming a pick or two earlier than their projections.

I do like this sort of thing, as we are only taking three picks - so it's a true win-win.

Side note - if we are really interested in Murray. Wonder how our trade with the Suns affects our chances of nabbing him (if it does at all).

I’d doubt we’d willingly give them more points to match a player we want.
