The second doesn't even really get brought forward any once ess trade their pick to Blues and Swans match a bid.

The picks between
29 and 33 are Essendon, Sydney, Sydney

Expect both Sydney picks to be wiped out. Only a 1 spot gain IF Sweid is bid on after our pick.

Also gives the chance for someone like Geelong to trade with GCs to jump us in the queue for a player. Odd move

Might be a future 4th back? Or some kind of handshake trade

EDIT: That essendon pick will go to Carlton for Dean bid. Doesn't seem like we move at all

I'm not sure Taylor is quite that high on our list but Nairn is as good as gone to Melbourne and Kyle might not make it to our selection. There are some advantages and disadvantages on us bidding for players are 20.
Clubs can sign the first 20 picks to 3 year deals and that might suite us before Tassie comes in.
However, if a club bids on Kyle and we were to bid on Carmichael the Swans can cover it but it thins out their options with their other boys. I like Carmichal and Murray as options for us but Lindsay or a slider has a lot of appeal as well.
Taylor is definitely amongst the five, we wouldn't have had more visits over the weekend otherwise. I can see a scenario where all five are either matched or taken and we shift back slightly.

The Ess picks in the 20s are going to the Blues once the draft starts so will be wiped out by a Dean bid.

Can’t see any benefit for us then, interesting to see how it pans out. As there’s surely no way we would just give another team a third rounder for nothing.
Hopefully they dont now sell pick 14, I'd assume we would have a hand shake agreement that they dont move the pick to someone that will take a live pick with it.
It's a very strange trade considering it doesnt give them much of a point boost either (actually negative points prior to other picks getting used for matching).

Does this deal mean we don’t have a pick for Will Darcy?

Assuming we’ve now told him we’ll pick up in rookie draft?
He won't get bid on at a stage that requires a pick carrying points. Best case we rookie list him, worst case we add him through the main draft and that doesn’t effect anything but how his contract effects our player payments.

Was surprised to initially hear, probably incorrectly, we were using pick 53 on him.

Can’t see any bid coming at all to be honest. The allure for clubs is that he’s Sam’s brother. Not sure that’s enough considering he’s only been ok in his U18 year.

That trade makes zero sense to me, the extra points we have given Suns, potentially helps them in matching a bid for Addinsall, who a lot of experts expected Suns to let walk to the Eagles.

If they match Addinsall now, Eagles have to go with someone else, taking another player of the board before us.

And the difference between 29 & 33 will literally end up being nothing. All the picks inbetween those 2 will be used on bids unless they expect a Lions leftover to fall inbetween or something.

I kind of agree
Only good for us impatient supporters like me
We will likely have the third or so pick of day two of the draft

Who was between our original pick and where our current pick is at? Might be some noise of interest in that particular player

Looking at Twomey's phantom draft has me worried we're in a very similar position to where we were last year, right on back end of a group of players I'd like and right before a group I have very little interest in.

Hopefully we can grab someone from that earlier group but no guarantees.

Hopefully the evenness of this crop throws up some surprises.
