Some surprises in terms of names who were overlooked, after featuring highly on many watchers boards.
But sometimes, you come across a player who may not be rated as highly. But have a story, or injury that you read and end up hoping to see them get drafted. That was Liam Hetherton this year for me. He was a big Western Bulldogs supporter as well.
That being said. How did he qualify as a Cat B? Swans grabbed him as a category B rookie. Didn't see him tied to any academy's.

Port took noone (one Rookie). Their rucks are shit, bit wierd they didnt take Kras

“He's able to be pre-listed by Sydney because the NSW and QLD clubs have the right to pick up anyone from their state as a Cat B rookie if they go undrafted, regardless of whether they were in their academy”

I want a Cat B. Surely JOD has some cricket mates we can poach.
I was told today that once the dust settled the dogs will be keen to add Burton to the Footscray list.
Looks like NHH will train on with the Tigers.
These guys that get passed over have lots of things to weigh up, could get train on gigs with clubs who have held over a spot for SSP, move interstate to go through a different program, join Tassie VFL and hope to gain one of the promised AFL gigs, play VFL or look to play another year in u18s as an overeager.

Can you have train-on players only if you have an open list spot. Or can you have players there to assess in case a LTI opens up a spot? To the extent we were interested in Kras it would be great to keep him close.

I believe only if you have a list spot. Certainly players would prefer to train on at a club that might list them.
You get to have 2 train-on players per open list spot. No open list spot, no train on players.
Forgot to ask about him, you'd have to think with the connections to the club and the late interest he'd be a fair shot.
Thanks, and is the official train-on status just for insurance coverage? Presumably VFL guys are allowed to do some pre-season stuff with the group so could get around it by getting them signed to Footscray.
I heard earlier in the year there is interest from his side in giving it a crack at some point. Whether it ever eventuates, or how soon, I don't know. From a solid source.
