He hardly played any midfield in the U18s ..... maybe a game or 2 ..... Billings played more games through the midfield in his U18 year

Trav mainly played across Half Back and he definitely played as a defender in the Nat Champs

4/5 games as under 18 and he performed well. Most importantly it’s the traits he showed.

Driving of legs !!!!!! (This is essential)
Elite tackling
Elite hands

Day, Fyfe and Bont have big frames incl shoulders. Travaglia is leggy, but his upper body is more like Blakey. Simpson was an outside wingman with elite kicking and running, he was the exception rather then the norm.

Travaglia has a long way to go with his kicking, body positioning and movement to become anything more than just another back flanker. He has time to develop and might be the exception, but his kicking and lack of penetration will be what really holds him back.
We took both Trav and Tauru based on upside and gotta remember they were both bottom end for age. Trav's kicking is fine except at pace which is a very hard skill to develop. If you'd remember the draftee interviews Trav is clearly the brains from that year's top 10 and combined with the positive traits he already possess he'll develop into a good player. We shouldn't worry about where he might end up at this stage, he'll be very different once he gets some power onto his frame.

All I will say is how many of his build did Brisbane have playing on Saturday?

The capacity to physically develop and a kids skills should be at the forefront of recruiters minds in my view.

Obviously Dalrymple saw something to pull the trigger so early. He is not who I would have selected but either is Barrat, hopefully Dalrymple's other selections in that draft make up for it.

The way Boxshall, Dodson and Tauru looked this year, I think they will be our better players from that draft class.

It's far too early to decide that these selections would need to be "made up for."

IMHO, l think RTB has give a directive that all draftees must have superior athletic ability. Kids taken very late maybe get away with it based on some other upside. Trav is that.

Played midfield in the VFL and was able to win possession and clearance.

I would say at this very early stage of his career that's as good an indication as any.
what do you mean, I was under the impression if an 18 year old wasn;t having 30 touches and 10 clearances against Brisbane they were doomed to be back pockets forever.

I actually think maybe he's more suited to a midfielder role than a flanking role long term at AFL level.

He's a see ball get ball type. As Ross said they tried him on the wing and flanks at training and he couldn't hold his width. Kept getting sucked into the contest.

To me he looks like someone who could go to a whole new level once he gets an AFL body too.

Couldn't agree more. I think what I did see espescially at VFL level was he realy started to take on the game every time he got the ball with his run. This imo trains his brain todrive his legs through the stoppage when on ball. Simmilar to Wilson. Now it is just about combing the run with his hands in tight and run. I think we will for a while see him run around, get caught , or try run out of a stoppage and then kick it to an oppositin player. Over time I expect his decision making and disposal to improve.

He’s surprisingly good in tight and has good hands.

Holmes might be one to take a flyer on in the hope he develops like his bro did.

After Cooper Duff-Tytler, who are the next Ruck prospects?
We need to target one with a late pick. A slow burn project player to take Moose's position.

No we don't, we drafted an 18yo last year.
If anything we grab a DFA to be an emergency.
I think a slower burn project Ruck would be a worthwhile get late in the Draft or Rookie. If TDK goes down we have Dodson and Keeler. Dodson looks like a jet but will need some time to develop his tank and his game.

We're losing Marshall, Heath, Boyd and gaining TDK only- looks a little shallow.

How does a slow burn project ruck solve that problem?

How many draft picks do we have to use? Is there a rule? Can we opt out or just match for Fincher then call it a night?

We only have 2 picks as we speak. How many do we actually have to use on the day?
