I would be shocked too but Dalrymple definitely has form for bypassing academy kids.
Hoffman and the lockdown keyback that both passed on didn’t look good enough to me either to warrant a list position.

Fincher on the other hand has something, that 1 VFL game I watched him play was super impressive, playing in the midfield as well.

I've not given up hope of grabbing an earlier pick 30ish in the draft to swoop on a targetted player -

I still think we still need a Howard replacement and Blake Thredgold from SA fits the bill.

Finn Davis an attacking prolific HBF has also been mentioned as a player of interest.

Otherwise natural goal kickers big & small like Taylor Byrne, Luis Emmett, Jevan Phillipou, Cameron Nairn, Hugo Mikunda or Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves would all be handy.

Then we will have a couple of rookie picks hopefully players like Campigli and Voss are considered.

Lennox Hoffman had stress fractures this season, but when fit I think he will prove you wrong and become a very good hybrid intercepting defender at Geelong.

He has a few in front of him so will have to bide his time, but I think he has a decent future. Players who can take intercept marks in defence are gold and that is his major strength.

IMO Geelong will have another late pick success story with that kid.

I think we forfeited Hoffman and Cole so we can get Dodson and Said. Already had 4 players in Hastie, Mclennon, O'Donnell and Schoenmakers who play the same half back interceptor role, unfortunately 2 of them are now gone.

I agree I just think he is going to be a better player than his draft position represented.

Our problem is that we don't have a 2026 F2 or current 2nd rounder pick. Next years first is off limits, we have multiple F3's to move up the order this year if we need points but I don't think we have the currency to get into the late first/early second bracket.

I'd happily take a swing at Ludowyke if he falls, but I doubt he will fall far enough for us to be in reach.

We'll take someone late I'd guess, that Finnigan guy sounds like a nice later option. I'd love to grab Voss, he's a great bloke!

I wonder if we trade in here.

Quick Look at the rookie rules. We need to upgrade Caminiti. But technically Hall can remain for another year as he has only been on the rookie list 1.5 seasons. Max 3.

Seems to me we are a club content with their position. Absolute bear minimum delistings and traded out of a crappy draft.
Odds on we just grab Fincher, a couple of rookie upgrades then raccoon through the DFA's or leave a spot open.

Apparently so Mike. Along with Campigli.

So if we have 3 rookie spots after retaining Byrnes.

Voss, Campigli, Wanganeen?
What has Wanganeen done to deserve a spot , is this just part of the NWM deal

Exactly. I want to be part of the first round for the sake of it, but Flanders is better than whoever was going to be available.

I still think Dalrymple will have his chance at a late gem, but we are following the plan. Hit draft for 4 years, then FA and trading in players.

Lucky in a way that the year we ditched the draft was the year it was super underwhelming - lucky or calculated... probably the latter.

If Tex gets a spot, the answer is probably yes. Even still, the kid is young enough having just turned 22 and certainly has talent in spades for a year on the rookie list.

I'd have him way in front of Joey. I was one of the first to single out Joey last year. Whilst he has talent and didn't look entirely out of place training with us - he certainly has his deficiencies and the gap between VFL and AFL is huge.

If Carlton still own their back to back pick on the night and there is someone we rate.

I wouldn’t rule it out.

The thing with an even draft is that 18 clubs will all see it differently and someone we rate in the top 5 could be there at 11

Not sure he has talent in spades as no one else wants him but anyway , who the feck is Joey ?

He could still be a decent contributor but with that said I'd chuck Gavin on our list if it keeps Nas happy
Sounds like clutching at straws , its like going to the pet shop and picking the best one and then you feel sorry for the runt of the littler and take it home as well

Assuming the current status quo I'd be happiest to forget the late gem in favour of a MSD spot. We really don't need more kids in development right now and we have the Irish boys too. I'm amazed that Monty, Dow and Carroll got through but l suppose it's mature depth to some extent.

So as things stand...

IF we take ONE pick at the National Draft then I believe this is a possible permutation for changes to our list:

Senior: Fincher, Caminiti, Hall
Rookie: Byrnes, rookie draft pick, Wanganeen/SSP, one spot open for the MSD

IF we take TWO picks at the National Draft:

Senior: Fincher, national draft pick, Caminiti
Rookie: Byrnes, Wanganeen/SSP, one spot open for the MSD
