Inside mids have gone so far out of favour that clubs are delisting good ones now. Pretty bizarre that we managed to not draft any for years and fashion caught up with us. We are like a guy who got around with a mullet for 40 years and now that everyone is doing it and we look normal.

They are still there but are weeding out the turtles due to the speed of the game.

Interesting that Sharp, Greeves and NHH all in Twomey's current top 20 but all were unavailable at the combine due to illness. My tin foil hat may well be on but if ever there was question marks over the athletic abilities over a few first rounders it would be these guys.
Probably true. Player managers etc...

Sides can only carry one pure extractor without run and speed at the most.

Geez if Ludo is really sliding into the 20s it'd be tempting AF to trade back in and grab him...
Would take a F1 I think, although if it got to late 20s or 30s there is potentially an argument that F2 is enough given comparable qualities of both drafts.

The main draft is looking pretty much like slim pickings for us after Trade Week.

Probably say 80% that we may even only take one selection, with that being Fincher. to come in as a developing mid.

Speculating, the Club may have an eye on another player that suits a higher position need. Having said that our list as it stands is the best balanced, with the best depth, I can recall for many a year.

Rucks: TDK, Marshall and the exciting Dodson. Keeler as back-up. The Club may choose in the SSP to bring in a mature ruck purely as back-up.

Mids: Carrol and Dow provide depth. Nas, Flanders, Hall, Macrea, Windhager, Pou, Hunter, Boxshall, Garcia

Outside: Wilson, Wood, Henry, Travaglia

Tall Forwards; King, Caminiti, Keeler and Marshall

Third Talls: Sharman, Owens, Pou

Small Forwards: Higgins, Ryan, Butler, Hall

Tall Backs: Howard, JSOS, Tauru
Mr Everywhere Back: Wilkie
Small Backs: Sinclair, Stocker, Hastie, O'Connell, Travaglia, Hunter

Picking our Best 23 is now extremely difficult.

So what positions/roles the Club might still wish to add will be interesting. It may well be decided by "best available" rather than a particular position. ie Say Pou Junior slides...we might take him instead of Fincher.

I've done a mock draft and there's going to be some decent talent left over at pick 65 (~50 after bids) if it doesn't get absorbed by a Fincher bid

I used it to take Hunter Holmes. His range is wide open bc he's super raw as a football player but his combine testing as expected was quite impressive. Would love to take him in hope of partnering with Wilson on either wing going forward because I feel like we still have a bit of a hole in our wing spots post-Wood/Hill/Byrnes. Blake Chambers might also be a decent options here as an elite kicking wingman

My mock also had plenty of inside mids left over at our pick. The more commonly known ones were Jack Dalton, Fred Rodriguez and Sam Swadling

One guy I'm keeping an eye on is Felix Kneipp - missed 4 months with a back injury but came back to finish the CTL season. Had disposal hauls of 31 and 30 through the midfield, the latter being in a quarter final. 179cm and plays a lot like Garcia so we probably don't have a need for him but as a potential rookie pick could be worth a punt. Wouldn't mind him at Saints VFL if he doesn't get drafted too

There's other names I can bring up too but definitely won't discount there being some good talent late in the draft just bc the general football public keep saying its a 'weak' draft. Wouldn't be surprised if we took Fincher and another in the National draft and 1 in the rookie draft

I'd love to get Holmes but surely he doesn't get past Geelong?

Im pretty sure Geelong are only taking at most 2 picks at this draft including one in the first round which would be a massive reach for him. Pick 38 (after bids) I used on Liam Hetherton for them - key forward to develop behind Neale and Jezza. Feel like that's a more pressing need atm but idk

It certainly becoming more prevalent. Can see the afl cracking down on this soon. Or players falling as a result.

I just want us to find a way to take Fincher and Voss. Voss really fills a need with Webster retiring and Nas moving into the midfield.

I know we have Hastie and OConnell but having other options, particularly ones that can use the ball, would be beneficial.
Voss can't lock down on opponents so I don't think he'd be a Webster replacement. He's a rebounding Sincs type which I guess we might still have a need for now that Nas is a midfielder

feels so weird not doing copious amounts of pointless draft research, how is everyone else filling in the spare time?

You're not playing all the angles.

With no 1st round pick this year we could, in theory, trade back in at any point in the draft.

Therefore, we need to be discussing literally EVERY SINGLE PLAYER on the off chance we decide to dip back in and make a pick before Fincher's bid on.

Wonder what it is. Appears to be across clubs too. It’s not just injury because plenty of the purported top 10 have been knocked around. He doesn’t give me great hard contested vibes, but looks to be plenty to like.
